Galapagos Islands

My husband and I are leaving for a fifteen day trip through the Galapagos in April. He's under the impression that we need to take wet suits, booties, fins, masks, walking shoes, and dry clothes from the boat to land. As a result, he's shopping for day packs large enough to carry all that stuff. In your experiences, is this necessary? Did you return to the boat after or before snorkeling to eat and/or change clothes or spend the entire day on an island?

The snorkeling and hiking rarely happen on the same excursions, and when they do, the boat staff with transport your equipment. Instead of a day pack, you will need a small drawstring pack for sunscreen and a towel.
