Galapagos Islands

Is there any opportunity to arrive in Baltra and just get on a Galapagos cruise ship without a reservation?

I have heard that there are always openings and that you can get incredible deals. Anyone with firsthand knowledge?

Thanks.

HI Hucksmom. During the low season (Sept-NOv), you can generally find some last minute ships from Puerto Ayora, the town that connects (via bus-ferry-bus) to the Baltra airport. If you can afford (time-wise) to spend a few days hunting around in town, then there is generally a few options you can pick up...provided you aren´t too picky! Good luck.

Rarely sometimes the answer is Yes...

but hard to coordinate schedules easy to get scammed also

2 best locals

www.galapagosXpedtions.com

www.galapagosislands.com

usually pick up short cruises on Cats the most stable

likw SeaMan II from $800 on sales

doubtful you will find cheaper on Santa Cruz

Avoid the MonoHulls seas rough

you could be sick the whole time...

Have fun,

It is not that common of a practice to do so in Galapagos. You are risking a lot by having paid $415 for your ticket + $100 USD for your entrance and Galapagos hotels are not cheap...I would recommend that you contact a travel agency in Quito or check some of the websites around about 2 weeks before. If you plan on going on high season, I would really advise you not to do it.

Thanks to all. I will NOT be trying to hop a cruise on the fly ;-) We'll definitely be booking in advance.

Thanks again.

If you're going to book ahead I would highly recommend the company I went with, they were awesome! http://www.galapagos.com/ Just stumbled across this and thought I would add my 2 cents!
