Extended Stay South America looking for accommodations, etc.
My wife and I will be traveling through South America (backpacking) from the beginning of December through mid March. We want to spend two weeks to one month in Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Santiago/Valparaiso. We have had difficulty finding low cost flights to get around. I know bus travel is a possibility but we really don't want to commit to the hours of travel necessary.
We found an apartment in Buenos Aires and we are hoping to do the same in the other cities. We haven't been able to find a good listing source outside of Argentina. Any thoughts or specific information would be greatly appreciated. |
You can easily get the ferry from Buenos Aires to Montevideo. They are very efficient and reasonably priced. You will really need flights for the getting between the other cities.
See if there's some kind of air pass you can get, in Brazil TAM offers a cheaper deal for 4-5 flights. LAN might have a similar deal. Usually they need to be bought outside the country. |

Thanks for all of the info. It was very helpful. In Chile we found a company "Contact Chile" that handles extended stay apartments. If anyone is familiar with them I would like to hear a review. Thanks.

You actually want to stay for a whole month in São Paulo and Santiago? Are you doing this as part of a bet?
For SP try this: http://www.aluguetemporada.com.br/sc....cfm?Estado=SP |
Staying for a month in capital cities will not give you the best trip you could have. Distances are long in South America and you have to move around to see things. Santiago has more to offer in day trips than say Buenos Aires, but the best things are not near either of them. You have to travel. What about Iguasú, Patagonia, the Atacama desert, wine country etc. There isn't much point in paying for a flat for a month in one place if you are going to be going to various different parts of each country.
