Ecuador International airports closed

The Ec uadorian Police and apparently the military are currently on strike, stating that their benefits have been taken away from them. The airports are currently closed due to the stikers currently being on the runways. Please contact your tour operators for details on each Galapagos company´s plan of action, as CURRENLTY no flights can arrive or depart from Galapagos Islands. The governement officials are working to resolve the conflict ASAP. If you are currently in Guayaquil or Quito, I would recommend you stay in your hotels for the time being, although the protest is currently calm, but there are no police in the streets or in public areas. I will keep you all posted.

The situation in Ecuador is not being covered at all by US news media - if I did not read the Buenos Aires Herald on-line each AM (my daughter is studying there for 6 months) I would have no idea there was any problem. I hope your post helps those who are there. Thanks.

It has now opened but flights will be out of sync. Anyone there should check with their airline.

Things are all back on track down here now...including international flights in and out of the country. Things were pretty much back to normal by Friday. You can check with the embassies for recent updates. Things in Galapagos continued on as usual throughout the whole ordeal.
