Ecuador

Help with itinerary for Ecuador
My husband and I are planning on visiting Ecuador in June 2014 and are planning to spend 2 nights in Quito, 2 nights in Otavalo and 2 nights in Cuenca. We are not interested in going to the Galapagos. Should we plan on a couple of days in the Amazon? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
SophieB

That involves a lot if time spent travelling around on buses. I would add the extra days to Cuenca rather than including another destination.

Thank you. I guess we'll skip the Amazon. Cuenca sounds like a beautiful city.

Cuenca is indeed a beautiful city. I would also work in a visit to Parque National Cajas which is only a short distance away and easily rwched by bus. The ruins at Ingapirca is also worth considering. Some photos and more info on re Cuenca and Cajas are on our blog entries 9 &10

Wonderful blog. Thank you for the information. I think Ecuador will be a great country to visit. Is it possible to get to Cuenca by bus rather than flying?

Hi Crellson one more question. Would September be a good time to visit Ecuador? What about December?

Being on the equator Ecuador spent have seasons as such and is affected by altitude as anything. December to April is high season on the coast which is affected by the Garua or coastal mist for much of the rest of the year. We were on the coast in July and were not impressed,

The highlands, where you seem to be considering is better with drier sunnier weather from June to September when the Oriente ( jungle) also has less rain.

I would say June to September is the better choice.
