Eating in Argentina

Are there places where my husband can eat steak but as I have high cholesterol, I prefer fish? Going to be in Buenos Aires and not sure where else. Thanks

Yes, almost everywhere. They serve fish in almost all restaurants, and it is prepared very well.
I doubt you will have any problems at all with the food here :)

We had wonderful fish at Fervor and the Plaza Grill. We also ate a lot of pasta at the excellent italian restaurants in Buenos Aires. We normally do not eat beef, but had to try it once in Buenos Aires and it was very good.

You do not know where else to come?
Have you heard about the NW? Talking about eating... Your husband can eat steaks anywhere in Argentina but you can also taste trout, pejerrey, salads with delicious fresh vegetables and also quinoa. Quinoa is a cereal which contains proteins and it is also used in pies, empanadas, etc-
You should also try our humitas, cheese and quinoa empanadas!
Definitelly, NW is an interesting destination regarding food!

Scarlett:

Today my daughter informed me that in North America all beef that is grass fed is finished with grain and this is where a lot of beef fat comes from. Fattening the cattle before sale, sounds about right to me.

I expect that the beef in Argentina is all grass fed so you might experience less fat in the beef there.

However, if you have a chance to check it out with a dietition you could verify this idea.

I had the very best steaks in Buenos Aires as well as pasta, fish and interesting salads.

Hi george!
From what I have understood about the beef here, being range fed, they are sort of like the Original free range beef .. I don't know for sure as we do not eat beef : - )
But as you say, the pasta and fish and salads and just about everything else is delicious and in my opinion, better for you .. there are so many more fresh ingredients used in the cooking here..

The salads in the NW are all fresh, very fresh, specially in Humahuaca Gorge and Cafayate. We produce almost everything for the food in the area.
Goat cheese is another thing we are using a lot in the cooking! A kind of string cheese called Quesillo which accompanied with some kind of jam is served as a dessert. Dulce de Coyote, for instance... (It is not the animal... it is a kind of fruit similar to a water melon, but can not be eaten raw...
Delicious...

Flintstones, do people drink goat milk in the NW, or just use it for cheese?

Beef in the USA goes from the range to feed lots where they are fattened with grain and pumped full of antibiotics and growth enhancing hormones. The result makes for a tender cut, with extensive fat marbeling.

One of the local foodies from Argentina posted not long ago that about one-third of the beef from Argentina is finished in the same way as beef from the USA. This is a recent innovation, and not a positive one....the free range beef from the Pampas provide healthier, tastier steaks in my opinion.
