Dressing for BsAs
 

Ah...the inevitable embarrassing "what clothing should I bring" question. (So pleased to have an screen name for queries such as these).This is my concern...we will be in BsAs for the first 3 weeks of April. I realize we are into the Fall season but am still hoping capris and sandals will work at that time of the year. Now ladies (and informed gents), I REALLY need advice here as I have foot problems and sandals always work best for walking about. However, if I'll end up looking like a fool all dressed for summer,I better know soon so my wardrobe choices can be rethought....HELP please. Also what is the possibility of actually 'using' the apartment's outdoor pool at that time of the year?

I don´t consider myself an "informed gent" on THAT subject, but I believe you should know you COULD get some cool (not COLD) days. So, perhaps you should also bring some "layers" of somewhat warmer clothing.

The pool may or may not be open at that time of the year (ask them) and the weather may or may not be warm enough for using it.

I would not count on wearing sandals neither capris in April, this is Fall, the only sandals I would think of are dressy ones for evenings like for a cocktail party or such.

Of course in today,s world anything is possible, wearing anything is possible.....
Regarding the pool I agree with avrooster most likely it will be to cold for pools and as far as I know most pools are not heated....well I might be wrong on this and may be new apartment house have heated pools.... better check it.

I don't think the sandals will work and probably not the capris either.
April can be warm and pretty during the day but when afternoon/night comes, the temps drop. You will need a sweater perhaps a light jacket.
You might want to do something like I do for traveling .. I wear a lot of black, I bring a few pieces maybe in white or a pale color and then you can layer and not have to pack a ton of pieces. So bring things that you can layer if it is cold or take off if it is warm.
And remember, it does rain in the fall, you would want to have closed shoes in that case ..

As always you are all so very helpful. Thankyou so much.Of course it is not what I had hoped to hear but that certainly isn't a fault of yours. The good thing is I will at least be prepared and not arriving with entirely inappropriate clothing. Too late I realize we should have booked for March NOT April. SIGH! But, it's done now. Better get out looking for walking shoes. Would you think the weather at Iguazu will be somewhat warmer...being in the jungle and all that?

It most certainly should be warmer in Iguazú, minx, as it is almost a tropical area.

I was in BA and Iguazu in April 2009. In BA, it was warmer than usual, in the high 80s at times. Iguazu was just very warm (I don't remember exactly). So who knows - you might get summer-like weather after all. You should be prepared for both summer and fall. As for walking in BA, take whatever is good for rough sidewalks. In general, it seems like people in Latin America bundle up much more than I would, and I just have to accept that as a tourist I will not fit in completely.

Side walks in Buenos Aires are in poor shape.
