Dengue fever...

As this is a topic will come up, I just let you know about it before you hear about it in the news.

Salta is far from the affected area. Orán, where most of the cases were detected, is about 340 kms away. In the Humahuaca Gorge, in Cafayate and in the town have not been detected any case. Unfortunatelly the TV does not help... instead of providing informatiosn to people (like how to beat the mosquito, which would be more profitable) they are scaring people by telling them how many cases there are in Salta but they do not even know where Oran is.

Do not worry about dengue fever if you are coming to Salta. Avoid the endemic area which is the NE of the province, but in the Calchaquies Valleys and Humahuaca gorge, and the salt plains, there are no mosquitos.

There are more deads for murder in BA than for dengue fever in this area.

BUENOS AIRES, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Argentina is battling an outbreak of dengue fever which has sickened at least 5,154 people, of whom five have died, health officials said on Thursday.

According to Health Minister Graciela Ocana, regions worst hit by the epidemic are Chaco, Salta and Catamarca.

There are about 2,900 cases in northern state Chaco, while Salta have 1,040 and Catamarca have 939.

On Tuesday, two women died from dengue in Chaco after receiving medical treatment for several days.

Meanwhile, local hospitals said their medical services couldn’t deal with the large number of people infected with dengue.

Dengue, an endemic disease in tropical areas, has broke out several times in Argentina, Brazil and Bolivia.

Symptoms of dengue are high fever, weakness and bones pain.

Todays paper says that there have also been cases found in the Cap Fed (BA city) so do not panic but do bring OFF with you. Good mosquito repellent will be all you need in town.

Off makes little towelettes too which might be good for travel purposes.
