Cuzco to Lima...

Hi guys. Planning a trip to Peru in September and trying to get the budget together and trying to figure out the best way to get back to Lima. It looks like most people fly from Cuzco to Peru. That sounds nice but Kayak (where I always find the cheapest prices on airefare) is telling me $256/person. We're a family of 6, that hurts the budget.

Options???

Thanks!!

Jack

You probably mean Cusco to Lima

Try an alternate airline such as Taca, Star Peru or Peruvian Airlines.

You should be able to purchase roundtrip tickets for about half that price.

though with 6 might just hire a cab/guide

from $100/da and do the Gringo Trail to see more and save...

I am not sure how you are getting to Peru from the US but if you fly LAN airlines on the international leg and have a few domestic flights in South America (Lima - Cusco for example), you qualify for a South American Pass. We are going to have a total of 5 flights around Peru and to book straight out, would cost $1221 but with the pass, our fares drop to $648 (for flights from Lima - Cuzco, Cuzco - Puerto Maldonado, Puerto Maldonado (through Cusco) - Arequipa, and Arequipa - Lima.

You are correct cavergirl. The SA airpass is a good deal if you qualify for it by flying into SA on LAN, however you also need at least 3 trip legs so it doesn't work for someone just doing Lima-Cusco return.

Other than their two tier pricing, LAN is an excellent airline. They do share a pattern with the other Peruvian airlines of cancelling and rearranging flights without giving notice, so be sure to check online and verify your flight times a few days ahead.
