Cusco to Manu - drive or fly?

Hi!

We are looking at different tour options for visiting Manu National Park, but we can't decide if we should go by land or fly. The "by bus" option sounds very interesting, but it is a very long drive and how hard would it be on those among us who tend to get car-sick? Has anyone taken this drive or the flight? What was your experience? Can you please comment? This is a great forum - it seems that no question is ever left unanswered. Also any advice on the best tour companies to use and the best parts of the park to visit will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Isaak

When I went, we took the bus there and flew back. That is what I would recommend. Its a long ride (I think 11 hours) but it is broken up by some fantastic scenery, a stop or two in an interesting village, and some stops to see the forest. After 6-7 days in Manu camping though, I was definitely happy to take a flight back which was an experience itself. Keep in mind that its possible to get stuck in Manu if the plane doesn't come, which it very well might not if there is bad weather or something else. Our plane pitched up 4 hours later than expected on a perfectly clear day.
