Condu or ?, ? Ugarteche and Segui
Looking at apartments in BA and found one (actually many) to our liking. Our first choice is high rise at Ugarteche and Segui. Is this a good area for us as first time visitors. Thanks for any input
|
Cindyjo, that area is great for restaurants, public transportation, lovely parks & museums. We stayed at Ugarteche & Juncal in the Palermo Botanical area. We loved the area.
I can not comment on your apartment block or your exact area as you didn't include the link for it. |
I agree with Condu, Ugarteche and Segui is a lovely area.
Is the apt. on Segui ? That is one of my favorite streets in my favorite neighborhood. Have fun with your apt. search. |

Thanks for the good replies. This seems like a good deal. Not sure where apt is exactly but emails are back and forth so should know soon! |
It is on Ugarteche at Segui - I can almost see it from my balcony. It is on the 11th floor of a high rise bldg. and it looks quite lovely. I will walk past the bldg.and report back; and you can ask AptsBA about any questions you have re the apt. itself.

Sorry, cindyjo, I just realized that you might have been asking about the specific area in which the apt, is located.
Well, IMO, very good news on that score. It is in Palermo Botanico between Libertador and Las Heras. It is very near to many lovely parks, the Zoo, the Evita Museum and the Museum of Decorative Arts (both recommended) excellent restaurants....I could go on and on.....This is a residential neighborhood with a wonderful 'vibe' (the younger set might prefer Palermo Viejo, Recoleta is a bit more upscale and sophisticated but we have gotten 'hooked' on this part of Palermo). |
I think the apartment looks lovely. When, are you planning to come to BA? For how long? I find it is best to book as quickly as possible when you ind THE apartment you like. The one that we are staying in is almost fully booked until October!

cindyjo: I just returned from looking at the outside of this apartment on Urgarteche. Here is MY OPINION of pros and cons.
PROS: *It is smack in the center of the great area of Palermo Botanico. *It is 1+ blocks from Avenue Libertador and the beautiful park - Alemagne. *It is on a corner, but not too noisy or congested at all. CONS: *The exact location is not very charming...there is a laundry on the street level of the bldg. (not in the bldg) and a Car Repair Garage caddy-corner to the building. (Not hideous, but a bit gaudy) *The lobby is neat and tidy, but not elegant or large; there is a doorman. *The building faceds a wall behind which are the two tower apt. buildings you see in the photos of the apt. The apartment is on the 11th floor, however, and so will have a good view and the garage etc. will not likely be visible - even if your balcony were on that side. So, to sum, a great general location in a building that appears to be well maintained, but not an elegant building or a perfect street situation. I would not hesitate to rent in that building, but I did want to make you aware of the less desirable aspects - then if you decide to rent it, you will likely be very happy with it. Please keep us posted on your search/plans/decisions etc. |
ahhhh, Saturday! Thank you so much MarnieWDC for taking the time to walk by this apartment. My only concern is transportation, although we usually end up walking everywhere anyway. If you and Condu believe it is a good rental, I think I will take the leap.
We will be in Buenos Aires Oct 18-25 and then again at the end of our month in Argentina for 2 nights. We will be staying in a hotel and have been looking at Arts Suites Gallery for that. We will be travelling quite a bit, which is not our style. We usually settle into one area with a car for day trips. But.. We are in our mid sixties with may places left to see and may not get back to Argentina. So we have settled on the Salta area, El Calafate, Chalten, Ushuaia and most likely Iguazu for a total of 32 days on the ground. Pretty much the usual circuit. We are working with Isabel who has been very patient with our many changes. Thanks again, i am following your posts and scribbling notes like mad! P.S. Sorry for the strange order, my IPad decided to edit independently.......... We had hoped to do the Australis cruise around Cape Horn but with the huge expense of flying from destinstion to destinstion, we have settled for some kayaking in Ushuaia and hiking in Chalten. |
cindyjo:
Transportation: Taxis are still very reasonable by North American standards (and very cheap in comparison to European Taxis). We tend to take buses - and they are located within a few blocks of the apt. - either on Libertador or Las Heras. The Subte is not too far either, and as you will be coming in Spring, that would be more an option for you than it has been for us in high summer. (Do read the cautions on this and other fora - mostly to avoid rush hour and be careful as you would in any big city subway). You will be here in the lovely Spring, and most likely will want to walk and walk and walk - I envy you the season. The Art Suites Hotel in Recoleta is an excellent choice. |
cindyjo - I am going to be totally rude here and highjack your thread, please forgive me :) A few of us on the Europe board are planning trips to Puglia and would love some comments on your trip a while back...any chance you can give us an update on how it went, any highlights?
Thanks so much (bowing out gracefully :) ) |
Jamikins, was just having guilt pangs about that this morning. I have a week off work comimg up soon and will start my trip report. If you have anything specific that you need before then, I will check the Italy forum this week.
|
Thanks so much!! I have a thread posted about my trip (just click my name) and would love any of your thoughts. I might go back to it now and repost my updated plans.

I agree with Marnie. Ugarteche and Sequi is smack dab in the middle of one of the best areas of Buenos Aires, especially for stays of a week or more. The area is convenient to Recoleta in one direction and Las Canitas and Palermo Viejo in the other direction. Las Heras is on more bus routes than you can possibly imagine. Cabs are convenient to catch on Librtador or Las Heras. And the subway is on the other side of Parque las Heras, about a 10 minute walk. Maybe 15 minutes in the heat/humidity of summer. Since you walk most everywhere, you will be able to walk to Recoleta or Palermo Viejo with ease.
About Art Suites: As if it was not confusing enough with two hotels with similar names--Art Hotel and Art Suites--now there is a third..Art Suites Gallery Hotel. All are located in the same general part of the same neighborhood. I have stayed in Art Suites and recommend it. I have visited the Art Hotel, and would be more cautious about staying there (some of the rooms are tiny and somewhat shabby, others are fine). I don't know anything about the Art Suites Gallery, other than it is in a good location on Pena. |
We have now postponed our trip to Argentina. We were having trouble fitting in all the areas we wanted to explore without flying internally 5-6x. Will wait until retirement (shortly I hope) and take more time, I have bookmarked Fodor's info and just wanted to say thank you to condu, drdawggy, MarnieWDC for your help.
We are now back to the drawing board for a trip to France and Spain - nothing like the weather we could expect in Argentina in November but oh well! |
cindyjo: I wouldn't turn my nose up at a trip to France & Spain. :)
