Coming Back To BA, Jan/Feb 2012, Hopefully
We are hoping to a return stay in BA Jan/Feb 2012. We hope to take excursions to other parts of Argentina while using BA as our home base. I am looking forward to connecting with all the gracious people that we met in BA when we were there Jan/Feb 2010.
We stayed in a lovely apartment in Palermo Botanico, last time. This time, we are thinking Recoleta might be a nice change. Does anyone have pros & cons about staying in these areas?
Jan/Feb 2011, we did a self-gilded tour of the Yucatan by bus. We were a bit short on cash after a total reno of our master bathroom. We thought a nice, inexpensive trip to Mexico would be the perfect solution. We were under a false illusion! We enjoyed our trip. But, it was not cheap compared to Argentina. The plane fare was very inexpensive and the flight length was the biggest bonus. Restaurant meals, tours, admission to ruins, etc, were as expensive as we encountered anywhere that we have traveled.

Yay ! Happy for you , coming back to BA !
That is interesting about Mexico.. and costs.
As you know, I live in Recoleta so I think it is a nice neighborhood to stay in. Aside from personal preferences, I think it is a good location to be based in for exploring the city. We walk to Palermo all the time, and Retiro and to the Colon etc ..
Anything specific, I will be happy to chime in, if I can be of help. Glad to know you will be back .

Condo hello again,
I think you have probably read the threads on various Fora that describe the increase in costs in Argentina - particularly in Buenos Aires. We found quite a difference from 2010 this year. The apt. we rented this year has also increased by U$S 200 month for 2012.
The difference is not enormous, but it is substantial...just so you know and can adjust your budget accordingly.
Suerte, and hi to DH.

Marnie, that is good to know. I'm seriously thinking of returning to Argentina next winter. Sounds like I'll need a bit more money.
Condu, I missed being there this year, and really want to go back. I stayed in Recoleta and Palermo last year and I enjoyed both areas. I like the funky streets and shops in Palermo, and I loved the location in Recoleta.
IF I do return, I would chose either area, but would prefer Recoleta.
Hopefully I'll see everyone there.

Marnie: I have been exploring various apartments in different areas. I am not unhappy with any of the rental costs. I am just having a problem choosing amongst the them! Lol! Each one has pros & cons! Thank you for your help in the past, present, & future(hopefully.)

Kodi: I hope to see you, too! I have found absolutely fabulous (FOR OUR NEEDS) apartments in both locations! Deciding is my hardest decision. All have pros & cons.

Scarlett: Thank you!!! I have several apartments picked out in various areas. I would appreciate your opinions on them. I will send you the links via a private email. Don't want to be scooped on my apartment & dates, again. LOL!

Condu: I referred to apt. cost increase - but actually, we felt it more in restaurants and taxi fares. I am pleased that you are finding what you like in Recoletta.
Kodi: How are you, my friend ? I am SO happy that you are planning a winter (our winter...) trip to Buenos Aires. Hopefully our visits will coincide. We are hoping for 10 weeks, so it is likely. All my very best to you, hasta luego.

Kodi, I will resist the urge to fall over laughing when I give 'Mr. Marnie' his new handle. Which bario will you be aiming for this year ?
We followed lots of your good recommendations in Bariloche this year; in case I forgot before, gracias.

Marnie, I'm going to write to you soon...really soon. I promise. And I want to hear all about your trip to Bariloche.
I don't know whether I will look for somethinng in Recoleta or Palermo. Either would be great.
Condu, yes probably in Feb. Gtgs are always fun.
