Colca Canyon Tours

We were planning on doing the two day Colca Canyon tour from Arequipa. Any suggestions?

Are you planning on taking a two day trip arrange by a tour agency? There are a lot of agencies available in Arequipa. Some also offer private tour for group of 2 or more if you don't want to be grouped with a bunch of strangers. Choose carefully.

I took the standard two days/ 1 night tour. The one thing I would've skipped was the trip to the thermal pool, since I wasn't into doing it.

I enjoyed my trip, especially watching the condors take flight in the morning; That was amazing. The only part of the trip that got me worried was on the long drive back to Arequipa, I noticed that the driver kept falling in and out of sleep, and the van was going in and out of the middle of the road. Everyone else on the bus, including the guide, was in a deep nap also. I was concerned enough that I gently shook the driver shoulder a few time to wake him up. In hindsight I probably should have waken up the guide himself and told him what was going on. If I was to do this again, I would choose a company highly recommended from the guide books.

Do not book on line many scammers

Did Mine Last with Inka Planet Herbert paid $30 all in

booked through my hotel on the Square in Arequipa

Nice Hotel Suite with views over the plaza

Folkloric Show all Transport Cruz Del Condor a must

Better if time stay at casa-andina Chivay or Colca-lodge.com

and self guide...a bit more but none of the hassles of groups

We used Colca Trek a few years ago and had a great time. We had booked it on line ahead of time, as we had with all the trip in Peru. They picked us up at our hotel and the tour began. It was a bit pricier than most but well worth it. We lucked out as there was only one other couple on this tour. Spent one night at Kuntur Wassi Hotel in Cabanaconde before descending to the bottom of the canyon the next morning. We spent the day on the bottom and toured around and then camped out in tents. Departure was pretty early the next morning (4am) to not only beat the heat but to allow enough time to make all of our travel connections. I just went to their website and it looks like it has completely changed so maybe they don't do this anymore. But others must offer similar tours. The views are spectacular and if I didn't know any better, you'd swear those condors pose for photos.
