Christmas in Punta Del Este or Buenos Aires?

Hello, I will be arriving at EZE on Christmas Day. This will be my first time there and will stay there until New Years Eve when I travel up to Rio for the celebration. As part of my itinerary in Buenos Aires, I want to spend 2 or 3 days in Punta Del Este Uruguay. I would love to see Buenos Aires in a normal setting and not be weirded out that the city is all closed down on our first day there,, Maybe it would be better just to head to the beach for the first 3 days.. Can anyone tell me what Buenos Aires is like and if arriving in a potential ghost town might be a downer? Would hitting the beach in Uruguay and relaxing for Christmas be the better option... I am returning to Buenos Aires on January 14th from Brazil for 2 days before returning home.

Christmas Day is quiet, everyone is home with their families. By evening, some places are opening and the next day it is alive and crazy again...and there might be fireworks. I never know exactly where or when, but they do fireworks on the holidays.
I think your arrival day in BA could be fine, if you plan ahead as far as having a place to eat .
It is a great day to walk the city and the parks , not a lot of traffic and noise .. I love the holidays here..

Punta is ideal for New Year's Eve, many parties and lot of dancing and all.
I think Christmas is more a family event, and most like most people will stay home with family and friends. In Buenos Aires probably you will have more choices for a Christmas Eve dinner if you care for one, most likely big hotels will be offering Christmas dinners. I am checking for instance that the HOtel SHERATOn is offering a Christmas buffet dinner ,with wine and champagne for aprox US70 us, this is in their Restaurante Cardinale, at the same time they have a more luxurious dinner with the prescense of Santa Claus, show, dancing, etc for
us140 per person, the matter in fact most big hotels offer special dinners, the Four seasons probably one of the best costs $300 per person in one rest and $200 in another of their restaurants.
The Alvear Palace will offer a great dinner no doubt and the Hyatt too, they also offer special dinners for New Year's Eve.

I am staying in Palermo, will there be any supermarkets open on Christmas day?
Also, what's the after day Christmas sale shopping like in Buenos Aires? I'm looking to bringing a practically empty bag with me. Are there alot of clothes for an American male size? I am 6 feet 190..

No supermarkets open on Christmas day. Pretty much nothing is open on Christmas day including restaurants ,stores etc.
I have never noticed the after Christmas sales like they have in the States..
There are plenty of tall men here so you should do fine, there are some nice mens shops in Recoleta... Palermo Soho/Viejo is good for shopping.
