Car Rental in Punta del Este / Taxi / Hire Driver?
Do I need to rent a car in Punta del Este or are there plenty of taxicabs available? If taxicabs are available, are they expensive? Has anyone hired a driver for the day and is that expensive? Thank you.

Unless you really hate to drive I would rent a car. It is not that difficult to find your way and it is not a real city, but some kind of a stretched out town. You have to pay attention in corners that do not have red lights and also they have a few ridiculous distributing Rond points but paying attention there should be no problem. You need a car almost for everything so depending on taxis I imagine is not ideal, they are not that cheap either.
