If you can't afford the extra $8 or so that some of the agents suggested on TA are charging, you can try waiting until you get to Peru and buy your ticket at face value at the Cusco offices.

Or you may want to reconsider entirely traveling during busy season, you will find hotels, taxi transfers, train tickets, and airfares marked way up if not purchased sufficiently in advance.

September isn't a bad time to go.

Have spoken to Visa directly about the payment issue and assured that it is them who have put major security measures 'verfied visa' in place. They specifically stated that it was the website that was acting fraudulently although the website states that they have had problems with others using stolen or cloned cards illegally but agreed that Visa had placed huge requirements that made transactions slow and problematic. However, they also offered a solution as detailed below. I also don't want to pay an agency, how do you know who to trust but gotta trust someone or I won't get to see Machu Picchu.

Recommend you email http://www.machupicchu.gob.pe/ call centre address is Call Center [[email protected]]& explain that you cannot book tickets for Machu Picchu. They will ask you to send them your reservation number, they then extend the date for payment until 24 hours before you are booked to visit Machu Picchu. They include instruction on how to print your 'Formato de Reseva' confirming the new deadline and also provide you with details of banks and cultural offices that accept payment once you reach Peru including Cusco. That gives you time to pay in person and then print your tickets.

We are booked for June 16 and so far 2280 tickets remain so I think we will be safe anyway.

Can someone give me the name of a travel agent they have used to pre-purchase tickets for Machu Picchu. Someone too whom I can trust giving my credit card number. I am having the same issues with on-line purchase. I only need the tickets and not a package. Thanks.

If you are having trouble, here are step by step instructions on how to buy your Machu Picchu tickets online from the official website, with pictures of each screen.

brand new poster promoting a blog no doubt...

The info in the post is misleading as to the number of daily tickets available (it is 2500 regular tickets and 400 which include Huayna Picchu).

However the suggestion to try the Spanish version may help IF your bank has not blocked payment (too much fraud).

When I went to Macchu Picchu a few years ago, I booked everything through Wayki Trek http://www.waykitrek.net/, an excursion company. I went with the MandorPampa-MacchuPicchu 2 Day. They took care of all the tickets.

I am unsure if the policy is still the same, but they do not accept credit cards ( I wonder why...hehe). They allow you to book the trip and make the deposit when you're in Peru at their bank Banco Del Credito.

@mlgb - Thanks for pointing that out. you are right about # and I've corrected the error on the # of tickets available:

http://therewardboss.com/2013/10/08/...a-few-minutes/

If you use the English version, the website won't even allow you to get to the payment page, let alone make a reservation which comes first (step 3 on the Machu Picchu official site).

I had a hard time booking it recently from several different computers on several different days (because the website in English gets stuck on 'step 3'). So I decided to write a post with screen shots so other people wouldn't have to struggle like I did, or get ripped off by the hotels who offer to book it for you (like I almost did).

I thought this would be helpful to people here. If not, my apologies and feel free to delete it.

That's right, don't use the English version, i used the Spanish one, it went smoothly.

There are 3 steps (1. pick a date and ticket type, 2. Enter your personal info, and 3. Payment)

Get someone who speaks spanish to help you or you can do step 1 and 2 in English to familarize yourself, then start again in Spanish. You can easily guess what to enter in the payment section. You will be asked to enter your password for the visa verification password (note it is not your visa PIN). If you don't have one, don't worry, you will get a link to get your visa verified.

Razon Social: Dirección Regional de Cultura Cusco
Teléfono: (51 84)23-6061
Dirección: Av. de la Cultura 238 Condominio Huascar Cusco - Perú
Dominio: www.machupicchu.gob.pe
Reserva: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Fecha Reserva: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Fecha Ingreso: ********
NroOrden: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Importe: S/. 133.16
Tarjeta: *************
Descripción: Pago de Boletos Electrónicos - MACHUPICCHU
Cliente: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Respuesta: Pago Exitoso

You should get a screen with this message "Respuesta: Pago Exitoso". according to google translate this means "Reply: Payment Successful".

To print your ticket, go back to the site, check-in section, enter the reservation number and print 2 copies of your ticket(s) for each person.

Please note that there a s5.16 commission for visa payments.

Happy ordering

Question fl4637: Did you do this from a US computer with a US bank Visa card? In the past, people from other countries have had an easier time with the Visa purchase going through.

I easily booked tickets in Spanish on a US computer. Tried various credit cards unsuccessfully until the site finally accepted a BA Visa card that was Visa verified (who knew?), no password necessary.

Then, when I inspected the reservation, it turned out that one of our son's citizenship was listed as "Afghanistan" (the default). I called the next day and an agent fixed the mistake and a corrected ticket showed up online while we were on the phone. Don't think I could have accomplished any of this without knowing Spanish.
