Bus from Buenos Aires to Santiago

Anyone here done this? How uncomfortable is it? Is the scenery spectacular? I'm wondering whether it's worth it for the view. Comments please.

We didn't go from Buenos Aires to Santiago, but we did take a bus from Santiago to Mendoza after the big earthquake in Chile in 2010. Our flight to BA, which had landed in Santiago to drop people off, had mechanical problems and we ended up spending 6 nights in Santiago because of the earthquake. Air Canada eventually chartered a couple of buses to take us through the Andes, where we caught a flight from Mendoza to BA. The scenery was absolutely amazing and despite the circumstances, I'm glad we saw it. OTOH, it's a long trip, and I'm not sure what it would like taking a bus from BA to Mendoza.

Not all in one go, I hope? The Santiago to Mendoza leg is supposd to be very scenic, but you need to check whether it's running in daylight again. I suspect the leg from Buenos Aires to Mendoza is a lot less scenic, but you should be able to do a lot of it at night. Personally I would (and did) go via Patagonia.

If bussing the whole way, take a night bus in the best class of service you can afford from BA to Mendoza. Spend a night or more and take a morning bus to Santiago. The restrictions on the road finished on June 1st so there are day buses both ways.

"Anyone here done this?"
In 2012 we went from Santiago to Mendoza during the daytime and, three days later, from Mendoza to B.A> at night.

"How uncomfortable is it?"
Uncomfortable? It was extremely comfortable. From Mendoza to B.A.I had a full 7 hours of sleep and would have gotten more if I had not gotten interested in a movie.

"Is the scenery spectacular?"
Well, at night from Mendoza to B.A. it was dark most of the time, but the road was straight and smooth. I suspect that there was little of interest to see. From Santiago to Mendoza over the Andes, the scenery was spectacular. Try to sit on the upper level and as far front as you can get.
