Buenos Aires: underground restaurant - can someone remind me?

I have the memory of a slug!

When I was researching for my visit to BA just over a year back, I was kindly advised by a number of locals, who generously shared their restaurant advice with me.

One of these, I recall, runs a well-loved underground supper club from his home. I wasn't able to visit as my dates in BA didn't match up to the days it was open.

But a friend is visiting soon and will be there longer.

Could someone please remind me of the name of the gent who runs it, and any website that I can pass on to my friend?

THANK YOU

Sounds like you're thinking of Casa Saltshaker.

Of COURSE I am. Thanks. I got as far as Casa in my head and I knew I'd slap my head as soon as someone gave it to me, yes indeed, Saltshaker!

Sorry, posted before I could add that Dan runs it, and here's the web site:

We had a great meal there a year or so ago.

Found the 2 websites (casa and restau review).
PERFECT!

Another one is Casa Felix (http://www.diegofelix.com/) - I'm planning to go there when we visit in late February.

Also on our blog there's a listing for underground restaurants around the world, including here in BA.

Besides our meal at Dan's, we also had a delicous dinner at Tipo Casa in Palermo. Where as Dan's is a set menu "dinner party" style, Tipo Casa is more of a restaurant style meal with a hand-written menu that one can order from. We enjoyed both.

Alan64, Tipo Casa sounds interesting too - I just googled it. Can you give me an idea of the type of food and price range? Thanks.

The menu changes based on what's fresh & available. When we were there in April 2008 we had a pork chop with a citrus glaze that was delicious. It's been so long I really describle more. I would just describe the cuisine as fresh & inventive. We enjoyed the feel of the place too. Many small rooms with mostly 2-top tables. Very cosy, with interesting colors and artwork on the wall. They prepared food for a lot of tables in a tiny apartment kitchen, and yet the service and food was great. At the time, I think our meal for two ran around $45 US dollars, including an inexpensive but tasty bottle of wine. I know prices in B.A. can go up quickly so I can't speak for what the cost would be now.

Thanks - sounds like a place I will want to check out.
