Buenos aires Kids & Wine

Hello,
I will be travelling to BsAs with my 2 daughters for 2 weeks in November. I have family there so we will be with them a lot, but i would also like some recommendations on kid friendly restaurants, safety, taking taxis with the kids (do they need car seats?), and any other fun things to do with them. I have heard that Temaiken & Republica de los Ninos are very nice. Anyone been there?
I also want to do a mini getaway and maybe go to an estancia so the kids can see some animals and enjoy the fresh air for a day or 2.

Also, my husband is a very much into wine, and although wine tastings are good, he also makes his own wine & is very interested in techniques and learning about the science of it. Does anyone have any suggestion for wine activities in BA in english?

I would appreciate any comments & suggestions!
I have not been to BsAs in 7 years so I feel like I am out of touch.
Thanks!

Hi, csciucci!

I'd say most restaurants in BA are kid friendly (most open at 8 PM for dinner) except perhaps the most elegant ones, which probably you wouldn't go to anyway.

Find in the "Recent Activity" column on the left my "More suggested reading" thread, for many great trip reports.

Taking taxis with the kids is OK, but car seats for children almost do not exist in Argentina.

I like Temaiken, but it is more than 30 miles out of town. Not so sure about how nice the República de los Niños (South of BA) is.

Research this place for your "mini getaway and maybe go to an estancia": http://tinyurl.com/mp9kyw

You could combine it with Temaiken, as it is in the same general direction.

For wine making techniques, I imagine you would have to go to Mendoza.

Have a great time in our town with your kids and DH.

I will check out the threads.
We went to Mendoza 7 yrs ago & my husband loved it, but we don't have time to go again.
Anyway, thanks again!!!

I forgot you also asked about"safety".

One good rule would be that if ANYTHING strange happens near you, grab your belongings!

Hi
There are no car seats used in Taxis. I rarely see them in cars.
General rule is no more than 4 people in a taxi..

The city is having a massive amount of park work and renovations here and there. They are putting in very nice parks for small children, fenced in, safe equipment, really nice. ( I see this mostly where I live in Recoleta but I think it is pretty much all over town)

I have been in restaurants at 10-11 pm and families will have children of all ages with them. The thing is that the children behave/quietly/ staying at the table .. They love children here and are very kind and sweet with little ones.

The BA Zoo is oddly old fashioned yet very child friendly ..

My only reservation about sightseeing, long rides with children is how well do your children do on long rides.. 2-3 hour rides ?
Being distracted watching your children can make your vulnerable to pickpockets so just be sure you don't have valuables in back packs or purse pockets where it is easy for thieves to help themselves.

There is a driver here called Fred (SilverStarCar) .. he might help you with the logistics of traveling outside of the city limits.
Have you all been to Tigre ? The children might love the ride on a boat, the park etc.

Thanks Scarlett!
I have been to Tigre but many years ago, so that might be a good place to take the kids.
Also, I read about the chilldren's musuem in the Abasto shopping center which sounds really nice.
I have family in La Plata & Arrecifes as well as BA so I'm assuming they will pick us up.
It's very exciting for my daughters to meet their extended family & I am also travelling with my aunt who grew up there but has not been back in 32 yrs, so it will aslo be a very emotional trip.

Thanks for the info!! You guys respond much quicker than my cousins to all the questions I have
