Buenos Aires hotel for 2 nights

We're a group of 4 ladies that will be traveling back to the States from an Antarctica cruise, stopping in Buenos Aires for 2 nights. We land at EZE at 5:30pm (if the Aerolineas Argentineas gods are willing) on December 6th, and fly out from EZE on December 8th at 11:45pm.

Is there a specific area you'd recommend we stay in for such a short visit - 2 full days? I've been to BA twice before so I plan to spend the 7th on a day trip to Colonia, but the other 3 have never been so will most likely take a day tour of the city. I guess ease of walking to restaurants for dinner would be important, I can't remember if the 'tourist' sites are within walking distances and therefore location is key, or if it is all done by taxi. Your input is appreciated.

Cheers!

Cheers for the four ladies coming to BA!

To give proper advice, I need more info.

The preliminary answer is Recoleta or Palermo.

You ladies sound as if the Recoleta area would be the right neighborhood for you, but, as said above, I need to know more.

Such as budget? I can suggest a relatively expensive 5 star hotel or find cheaper choices.

There is a free walking tour and also a hop on/hop off bus.

You ladies will have a great time in my town. It should be relatively warm, as I imagine you know.

AVRooster makes good sense: the Alvear Palace Hotel in Recoleta would be my favorite - if the budget allows. Another high end, lovely choice would be the Algodon - Like the Alvear Palace, it was a famous mansion for one of Argentina's top families.

Otherwise, in the same area but at a lower price point: Melia Recoleta or Sileo.....

And Palermo Sojo has lovely, boutique hotel choices. Still, I do think, given what you've described, that La Recoleta would best suit.

So many good choices, with good friends, and so few days....Enjoy yourselves.

Thank you both. I was hoping to spend no more than $200-$250 per night per room, so I'm afraid the Alvear Palace is not within our reach. The Melia Recoleta looks very nice.

I have read thru most of the forum posts regarding B.A. hotels back as far as 2014 and do understand that Recoleta and Palermo are the most often recommended neighborhoods. It's just that I came across the following in one of the posts (I'm sorry, but I don't remember which one...) and as we only have 2 days there I thought it might apply to us too:

"A hotel in Puerto Madero will be fast to get from/to the airport on private because you don't need to enter the center, is near center to come back from the tour and allows you to go on foot for your dinner. The area is full of restaurants and more beautiful at night, especially around "Puente de la Mujer" and Sarmiento ship museum. There are not many shopping options but anyway your stay is very short. There are other options too, but don't choose Palermo because it will take half of your time for transfer. Just a suggestion."

avrooster: yes, I believe it will be summer when we get to B.A., it might be a welcome change from the weather of Antarctica! Especially as I live in a hot desert climate. We'll remember to bring some light clothing with us!

Oh, and I should add that we are ages 50's - early 60's and all healthy and active. I read on the Forum about bicycle tours and I thought I might suggest that to the other 3 women for the day I'm in Colonia, if you think that would be a fun way to see the highlights of town.

Hi, sheandme!

Do you expect to take a room for each of you or share?

Apparently only you will go to Colonia?

More comments on your replies later.

No matter what, you ladies will have a great time in my town.

We didn't stay in Puerto Madero on our last visit but did spend a lot of time there as we were apartment hunting around there. It is a little out of the action on its own but very pleasant with lots of restaurants although it does lack the character of places like Palermo and Recolleta. Its location means, that to see any of the main sights you need to leave the area..It is, however, very convenient for the ferry to Colonia. Nice place, but I don't think I would want to stay there if only in town for a few days.

We and some friends are renting an apartment in Palermo Soho (I don't think the transfer times are a big deal) this time but being an Accor member, I did look at http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-...s/index.shtml# which is in a very central location on Corrientes , making it realtively easy to get around to at least some of the sights. May be worth looking in that area.

We had a wonderdul experience at Melia Recoleta Plaza, very near The Alvear Palace Hotel.
