Buenos Aires

My husband and I are seniors and are thinking about a trip to Buenos Aires. Asking Fodor travelers for air vs ship travel recommendations. We are fairly experienced but hesitant to take a 20+ hour flight. We are in California. Thank you -

I'm sure there are cruises from California to BA, but I suggest flying.

Since there are no direct flights and you are "hesitant to take a 20+ hour flight", why don't you split it two stages?

One flight to Dallas or Houston and the next day the direct flight to BA.

Keep the questions coming, Portdane!

We flew from Oregon ... stop-over in Texas and on to BA, arriving in the morning. It was not terrible at all. You sleep and wake up in Argentina .. how fabulous is that ?
They are overnight flights .. and your first day in BA you take a nap and then you can stay up late and not have dinner alone since everyone eats so late.

Now I would fly from NYC non-stop .. either way, you fly at night and sleep through most of it. The price is little too pay for the wonderful place you arrive in : )

That should be "the price is little to pay .....

Well, you may sleep... I can't sleep in economy. But I would still take the plane, it will certainly be much quicker, and I get bored on boats. But I agree with suggestion to break the trip, I do that quite often.

i usually fly Lan or American but I changed this last trip to Avianca , from Miami to Bs .As( We visit often because We have grandchildren in Argentina)

We made one stopover in Perú which pleasantly cut the trip in two.
I am delighted, 1) more leg room, 2) 2 free suitcases,3) much cheaper ticket
3) Very nice Airbus planes 4) good service
NeXT trip I plan to get off at Lima spending a few days in Peru.
May be you can algo get off at Oeru for a short visit.

Our flight was broken with the stop over in Texas which annoyed me. I like to take off and land one time : )
We also had our Standard Poodle on the plane, poor thing, they made him fly in the hold with the luggage : ( so my flight was a bit stressful because of that but it is a long boring overnight flight, you will probably sleep for at least some of it.
We flew First on that trip because we were moving to BA and we had the mileage to upgrade. I don't like breaking up trips like that, I want to get on the plane and get off at my destination. I don't want to add time to it with the boarding and getting through security etc over and over.
Miami to BA is a nice flight ! shorter than NY to BA or Texas to BA ... ugh !
Now because I live in NY, I would fly to Fl and visit friends for a day or two then go on to BA. In fact, that is sort the my plan right now :)
I have dreams of myself wintering in BA instead of snowy NY .
