Brazilian music
Where could I go to hear the best of Brazilian music?
|
Depends on where you are and when.
How about Boston, in November, for the Milton Nascimento concert? Why don't you give us a hint of where you're thinking of going in Brazil, what cities, and when, so someone might better advise you. |
Just to expand a bit on the previous......
There is what could be called a popular national music, but artists and music styles are regional as well. You can research Brazilian music styles online and familiarize yourself with regional styles, ranging from repentismo to axe to sertanejo. Certain times of year in certain parts of the country are likely to have more music happening. |
Thank you SambaChula for your reply. I had no idea where to start. All I know is that Brazilian jazz music speaks to me. I know very little about Brazil.

Which Brazilian jazz musicians/groups have you listened to?
In Rio, you can hear jazz at the Maze in Tavares Bastos. In Salvador, there is Jam at MAM. However, I think you might find other rhythms/styles, such as forro or sertaneja or pagoda, to be more popular among most Brazilians these days. |
There is a lot of information about Brazilian music styles that can be Googled. Then take a listen to some of the artists mentioned using YouTube.

That was "pagode", btw, no thanks to the auto correct on this tablet.
