Brazil visa for Canadians.

I have just looked at the website for the local consulate. I am concerned that one of the documents that has to be included with a visa application is a letter from a travel agent stating the itinerary/payment details etc. I have no intention of using a local travel agent and plan on making the reservations for hotels and flights myself. I am thinking of making these reservations, printing them and then enclosing them with the visa application but I'm not sure if the local consulate will accept them. If any Canadians have travelled to Brazil recently and applied for a visa in Canada could they please chime in and let me how complicated the process was and if they had to use a local travel agency in Canada to make reservations. Thanks.

We went through the visa process in December - I used a Florida based travel agent for a small part of a 4 week trip (some flights and one hotel booking) but otherwise booked everything else myself (and for half of the trip had not finished the bookings at the time of the Visa application).

I enclosed the itinerary from the travel agent, our Aeroplan confirmation, and the confirmations for the arrangements I had to date and it was all fine. We hand delivered our applications to the Consulate in Toronto and they quickly review the information while you're there to ensure it is in order. They give you a tracking number and an expected pick up date and you can check online to confirm the Visa is ready for pick up (about 14 days but it was over Christmas). Very efficient system, actually.

We LOVED Brazil! Hope to get a trip report up soon....

Thanks for the reply, Elizabeth_S. Did you fly to Brazil from Canada and was your flight back to Canada also from Brazil?

I plan on booking an open jaw ticket to Brazil but will return from another South American country (either Argentina or Chile), I will exit Brazil at Iguacu and travel to Argentina from there, so I will not have any documents for the consulate to show how I will exit Brazil. The best I provide is my internation flight ticket and the hotel bookings (both in Brazil and for the part of the trip after I leave Brazil).

Yes, we flew in and out of Sao Paolo (having traveled to Argentina as well during that time). Lucky you that you're entering Argentina by road from Brazil - it means you avoid the Reciprocity Fee ($75) that Argentina charges if you arrive via air in Buenos Aires.

You might want to include a written summary of your planned itinerary showing how you will exit Brazil...although honestly I don't think they were terribly concerned about the travel arrangement information for Canadians.

Are you in Toronto? As mentioned we found the process to be very efficient - on their website there is an email for questions...perhaps if you drop them a note they can comment on what you need ....

Many thanks, Elizabeth_S.

The reason I plan on entering by road is not to avoid the reciprocity fee it is because I intend to travel in one direction and not have to backtrack to an airport in Brazil to fly to BsAs. As the trip is tentively planned for spring (spring in South America, fall in North America), I felt it was best to start in the north and make my way south, once I get to southern places I'll visit on the trip hopefully the weather will be a little warmer than when I start the trip.
My rough itinerary is Brazil - Argentina - Chile, I am still working on the logistics of the trip at present so anything could change as I have not commited to airline tickets yet.

I am in Toronto and was thinking of stopping at the consulate later this week to pick up forms (know these can also be printed online), ask questions, etc.
