Airfares to EZE?

Thinking about going Thanksgiving week, the Saturday before to the Friday or Saturday after.

Route on United would be SFO-IAD-EZE, coming up about $1433 all-in.

Same route during the same week in 2006 was $1080 all-in.

What's been the trend for fares to EZE in previous years? Is it likely to go up or are there ever "sales" in the fall for travel on those holiday weeks?

My ticket in 2011 was $1600 BTR/DFW/EZE on American. Just bought one for this Sept. for $1372 same flights, so around $228 less than previous year. Don't think you'll ever find a $1080 again....

scrb11: You should know that the non-stop United flights to/from IAD and EZE are no longer. United, in it's merging with Continental, now flies to EZE from Newark NJ and from Huston, Texas (and possibly from other 'new hubs'). Perhaps you could get routed from SFO to one of these other airports instead of IAD ? Trust me, you are not alone in being disappointed and inconvenienced by this 'improvement'.

Sorry, I put in the wrong airport code, it's IAH probably.

Wow that fare I was looking at jumped.

Looks like I should have jumped at it, though now, I'm thinking I need to look at Delta fares.

Same pricing for AA fares at this time via JFK outbound and DFW inbound.

$100 discount per person for citibank card holder booking.

Hi, Doc!

I normally abstain from correcting ladies' spelling. I concentrate on professors.

ROTFLMAO!

Did you read that article I sent you?

I thought it was an excellent article but since my reading comprehension in Spanish is about the second grade level, I relied on Google translator. I particularly liked the conclusion....

"Power without dialogue, democracy without trust, diluted identities, changing rules and disrepute are not good symptoms"

My DH used the Google translator too (our Spanish is only pushing up to 1st grade level)and we both thought, from our understanding of the Spanish - much less the translator - that the article was very interesting.

Just for the data points, we just returned from JAX-IAD-EZE ... SCL-GRU-IAD-JAX on UA for $1337 apiece. (Delta was about $450 more, even with a MCO departure.)

No.

Actually, one of the motivations is to accumulate some FF miles.

I have been on Delta for years but moving to UA, which still has the old Continental route through Houston (IAH).

Currently, United is cheaper to EZE than Delta.

I just booked my D's ticket for her July - December study abroad gulped at the 1250 airfare, now I realize it was a decent price.

BTW she got direct from Newark to EZE but through Houston coming home in December.

Any input for her semester abroad? She needs to pick her home stay when she gets there, we are kind of in the dark about that.

Maybe I should start a new thread on that question, I am a newbie on this.

Where is she studying? Is the school/program arranging home stay options or is she on her own? I directed a number of study abroad programs in BA, although not since 2007.

Some students enjoy home stay. Other students prefer to share a short term apartment rental. Still others prefer to live in a "residencia" (aka dorm), such as Master Residencia, with students from Argentina and throughout the world. http://www.residenciasmaster.com.ar/. (Unlike in the USA, most universities do not have their own dorms in Argentina. Privately owned Residencias fill this need. Master Residencia is owned and operated by the Masvidal family. They are very good people).

Whatever option she chooses, make certain there are good public transportation connections between her housing and school.

spiegel: drdawggy is most certainly THE authority on this subject.

So, keep the questions coming. If you come up with many more questions, it might be a good idea to start your own thread with them.

Your DD should have a great time in our town and our country.

Hmm, since originally posting this, I've been tracking fares on Yapta, where it's gone as high as over $1900 but today dropped to $1343.

Wondering if it's as good as it gets or if there might be promos and sales towards the fall for a November departure.

Of course, it's a popular time for travel since many get time off. So waiting may result in lost seats.

I found out a couple of weeks ago that you have to pay a reciprocity fee to get into Argentina though! Didn't have to back in 2006.

Heard they're having some economic difficulties so they've nationalized and oil company and today, they banned imports of jamon iberico from Spain?

I think $1343 is a pretty good price for that time of year. One never can be sure, but I would probably go for it.

The reciprocity fee has been on for several years: it is, at least, good for 10 years.

Can you pay by credit card?

I would not take any money down there, would use my ATM and credit cards whenever I can.

You can pay by Credit Card.

You might want to plan to change some money in the airport when you arrive - at BANCO de la NACION or PIANO BANK, but NOT at the change booths. It is good to have some cash, and once in a while, ATMs are not functioning perfectly. If you do this, make sure that the bills you will exchange are in pristine condition.
