Bogota airport hotel?

We have an 8am flight to Miami out of Bogota on Feb 11 and our ground agent has put us up at the Emporium Hotel in the city. He says it is a 15-20 min drive under normal circumstances. I've read stories about the terrible traffic and am wondering if it would be better to stay closer to the airport. Also should I assume we'll need to get to the airport by 5am, 3 hrs before flight, like we do at other major South American airports? Thanks for any insights.

With that schedule always stay out by the airport

with the free shuttle to BOG

www.spg.com the Sheraton is great out there

cheap or free with points but many other good options.

Was recently at the Marriott probably the best

but unless you have hotel points will run you $200 or so

www.booking.com many other good options out there

with reviews...

If your flight leaves at 8am, then you'll be leaving early for the airport, probably just after 5am. There is no traffic on the roads at this time. Leave closer to 6am or afterwards then you will be stuck. The journey from any hotel uptown or in the city center will take you 20 miinutes to the airport.

You can ask the hotel to arrange for an early taxi or you may hook up with a cab during your stay and ask the driver to come to the hotel early. Also, remember to carry a little bit extra money for the departure tax out of Bogota (I think $40 per person - or 80,000 pesos). I and even my wife both had to pay it (she is Colombian (caries both Colombian and US passports).
