Birthday dinner in Buenos Aires

We are spending a few days in BsAs this Jan. precruise and I'm looking for a nice place for dinner for my wife's birthday. We had spent a week there 4 years ago and enjoyed every meal, but not sure what are the most popular restaurants now. Any suggestions?

I feel it is a matter of taste. Therefore, more info is required for a good answer.

The answer to all your questions is to be found at www.timeoutbuenosaires.com . There are so many that it is hard to say what is best without knowing what type of food you want. Since you were last here there are more ethnic varieties to choose from and more fish and cutting edge 'macro' cooking as well, BA is not just parillas anymore. Also, don't forget the 'closed door' restaurants, if you haven't tried that.

We enjoy all types of food. Even though we eat steaks, not really on the top of our list. Looking for inventive cooking. Mgbok, what are "closed doors" restaurants?

For "inventive cooking" maybe "Pura Tierra" would be a good idea.

If you are staying in Palermo, it's OK. If you are staying in the Recoleta, it's a bit out of the way.

A "closed door restaurant" is a private house or apartment in which the owner cooks for his "guests". I had only one experience with that kind of place and I didn´t think much of it, to put it kindly. Others could be better, however.

Have a great time in our town.

I agree with AVROOSTER that PuraTierra would be an excellent choice. Also, El Mirasol in Recova (a part of Recoleta)is a fabulous restaurant.

Enjoy the birthday celebration and your BsAs visit.
