Best things to see in Argentina

If I were to travel to Argentina, what would be the most interesting sites to see, places/food to eat, things to do, etc.?

soulskier May 2nd, 2009 02:07 PM

BA, Iguazu Falls, Patagonia North (Lakes District)and South (Glacier), Puerto Madryn/Valdes Peninsula, Salta and the North West and Mendoza and wine country.
If you can say what time of year and your interests, it would be helpful.

Soulskier's list looks like an excellent choice to me! The highlights for me were a week or so spent driving around the NW probably followed by the whales of the Valdes peninsula. Mendoza was nice with great food and wines but for some reason impressed me less than other parts of the country. As soulskier, if you provide more info, you will get better responses

Great list, Soulkier...I am not sure if you intended your list to be in priority order, but your list certainly matches the order I would follow...The only addition I would make: Cordoba and vicinity.....

Thank you for the info. What time of year would be best? I would be a first time traveler. I like outdoor activities and interesting foods.

We spent around three months in Argentina from Oct to Dec and the weather was pretty much perfect the whole time (maybe we were lucky?) Plenty of blue skies and not too hot. Although we were told that the weather for Dec (in BA) was warm for the time of year.

I think spring (October-early December) and fall (March and April) are the best times to visit for the whole country, both for weather and lack of people in the more touristy areas. Suerte!

I think The NW is a great choice and whales too...
The NW has a lot of interesting things to do, see, taste, eat, enjoy...
The landscape is very varies and, the weather is perfect.
The wine country is so interesting, and we have a kind of Wine which is unique; the famous torrontes...
Purmamarca, and the 7 colour mountains, the SAlt Flats, Tilcara and Cafayate are definitellythe places you have to see in the area.
If you need further info, do not hesitate in making as many questions as you consider necessary...
We usually see a lot of wild animals in the way to the salt Flats, some llamas in farms, lots of birds...
Salta is a nice town with colonial soul... Nice buildingas are around the main square including the interesting MAAM Museum, where the momminesz found in the Llullaillaco mountain was found in 1999 by NG.
You can also see some pictures here http://cometosalta.spaces.live.com/ And of they do not convince you, make a deep research with people who have already visited the area.
Warm regards,
Flintstones.

I recommend getting a Rough Guides Argentina or Rough Guides Buenos Aires and see what appeals to you the most.
Keep in mind that any flights you take here and there, may have to originate in Buenos Aires..
This place is huge and driving times between towns are long.. from BA to Bariloche by car would be about 17-20 hours .. or a 2 hour flight.
It all depends on how much time you have and your budget.
A lot of people that I know, come to BA, rent an apt and use BA as their base for travels outside into the NW etc.

I insist NW is a great destination in Argentina, and you should not miss it. The food in this area is great also and you will not regret it.
Garanteed!

Flintstones, do you like the NW?

avrooster May 6th, 2009 09:05 AM

Just like you love the South, soulskier. LOL!!!

flintstones May 6th, 2009 01:43 PM

Yes, Soulskier... You said you never came to Salta. Are you serious??? How could you live without visiting the NW!
LOL!
You should come one day.
I have never been to BAriloche, maybe one day!
I looove the NW!
Wamr regards,
Flintstones...

I have been to Salta and the NW. I think it is the hidden jewel of Argentina.

AVR, I love all of ARG, the country rocks!

flintstones May 6th, 2009 08:15 PM

Me too, but the terruño is the terruño!
Soulskier, the fact that you adopted BAriloche as your home talk very well about you!
Maybe Bariloche adopted you...
Cheers from the North to the SOuth!

those are all really great suggestions. If i had to add one more, I would have to say Bariloche. It is beautiful in the winter (summer too) and will be really lively and fun when you are there. It's my favorite part of argentina. Other than that, BA, Iguazu and Colonia are pretty good bets. If you have time try Mendoza too! There's just too much to see in this amazing country!!!

Cheers!
