ATMs in BsAs that dispense more than 300 ARP?!?
I've heard that there are ATMs that dispense more than 300 Argentinian pesos per transaction - can anyone enlighten me about where these are? I don't want to pay an 8 dollar service fee for every 100$ I withdraw (which is nuts!).

They all dispense more now. But they charge you a fee for each withdrawal, on top of the fee you will get from your own bank.
The fee is $11.46 pesos .. we can take out $1,000 pesos at a time. |
Thank you Scarlet. Yes, I noticed the fee of 11.46, is it the same for any amount...in other words is if a flat fee>?

Hola, Graziella,
Yes, as of now, that is the flat fee. . for every time you use the ATM. It started a bit lower, $11.13 I think, something like that .. |
When we were there last year Citibank were the only bank we could find that were not limiting withdrawals to 300pesos. I think we were allowed to withdraw up to 3000 pesos.

We were worried as well in Nov but never had a problem with the ATM's. The beauty was not being able to spend all that cash as expected and I had to use the "left-over" money on shopping the last day...

Just got back from BA and most ATMS will give a max of AR$700 for the 11ish pesos fee. In Calafate that number was closer to AR$320, but we did find one ATM that gave is AR$700.

First of all 11.46 pesos is only around $3USD,but if you want ZERO fees on ANY ATM in the world open a Charles Schwab account (it can be done on the internet) it costs nothing to open the account and you can take out small amounts of cash and in essense be using the ATM as your SAFE to hold your money instead of carrying alot on you

thebug, I believe there is a little more to opening a Charles Schwab account... I believe you have to have funds/securities with Charles Scwab.. and last of all, sadly, I know of at least one person who had a problem with their account when they used it too many times a week.. here in Buenos Aires.
If you go to TripAdvisor.com and the Buenos Aires forums, you can read a very very long thread on this subject.. 11.46 pesos is the fee for the ATM in Buenos Aires... for Each use. So then you add the ATM fee you get from your own home bank... This adds up for ex-pats and people who stay for months in BA, vs those who are here for a week or 2, it is not so bad. That is why we are happy that the banks, here in Buenos Aires, are now allowing larger ( 1,000 pesos vs 300 ) withdrawals . |
