We are visitors to BA every here are a few of our experiences relative to Dukey's post. Argentina is different from most other countries we have been to in that the Banks here ( with the exception of Banco de la Nacion in the airport ) do not exchange currencies. The Cuevas are not IMO, Black Mkt. but rather gray and reliable and with good rates. CCs work well in many is possible to get a discount if you pay in cash (effectivo). Using foreign CCs in most hotels allows you to enjoy the discount of IVA.

I always make it a travel practice to carry a color, photo copy of my Passport info page. It is accepted in almost every situation, with the exception of car rental, travel and that airport bank.

So, enjoy your planning and your stays in this interesting country.

A few years back the ATM connected underground to the Park Hyatt BA worked. My friend also got a small exchange direct from PH. Mostly needed for taxis.

We were in Argentina 9 years ago and after unsuccessfully trying to change our US $ at a bank, we used money changers which we didn't have to look too far for. They were located in touristy areas. We're coming back at the end of March, starting with 6 days in BA. Are there still money changers in BA? It sounds like trying to get Argentine pesos is going to be difficult.
On another note, avrooster, it's nice to see you're still posting. I used to see your posts when I travelled to Argentina in 2010.

No problem with getting Argentine pesos from money changers. They certainly are still there. However, at this time, the "blue" and official rates are about the same, which most likely was NOT the case back in 2010. Have a great time in my country, susan4207. Anything else I can do for you?

Arrived in BA earlier this morning. Immigration at EZE slow (took about an hour) due to simultaneous arrival of several flights. Traffic in the city itself moved but sometimes slowly. Exchanged money without problems once we found a location to do so near our hotel. Weather hot (90 degrees) but the city is everything folks said it would be and more.

Thank you. That thunderstorm last night seems to have cooled things off and we spent today touring around various sections of the city. Wonderful weather, great food, and friendly folks everywhere.
