argentina's closure of domestic airports

We're told that there will be repairs at the domestic flight airports and that they will be closed Oct. thru Dec???? Will that create somewhat of a huge problem getting around?

soulskier Jul 27th, 2010 02:42 PM

Where did you hear that?

nakra Jul 27th, 2010 07:56 PM

Sorry should have said Buenos Aires airport ...we were told the intra country flights would have to go thru the international airport ...

avrooster Jul 28th, 2010 01:35 AM

That's right. In theory, it shouldn't be a "huge problem".

Have a great time in our country.

I'm flying to Cordoba on LAN in October. So I need to plan to to go to EZE not the other airport right? (I'm very happy I didn't pick the early morning flight!)

Hi, teach2travel!

I'll ask Isabel, our friendly local travel agent, to post here about this.

Have a great time in our country.

There is a rumour about closing the domestic airport for some time but nothing s been confirmed yet. If all domestic flights take off and land in the same EZE airport, there shouldnt a problem for the tourists. The only thing we can do now is to check the times as there will be some changes.
Today, the info desk at Ezeiza airport informed that the confirmation would be given end of August beginning of September.
regards,
milla

"milla" is the screen name used by Isabel, the friendly independent local travel agent, who helps us out with these things here.

Thank you, Isabel.

We just returned from a 3 week trip to Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. It was our second, and the first time, we spent a great deal of time connecting in Buenos Aires, no matter what our destination. This time, we used some alternate airports and airlines. For example, we traveled from Cordoba to Montevideo and Montevideo to Santiago on Pluna. The flight was on time, planes were clean and modern, and the fares were excellent ($180 per person for both flights, including taxes.) If you have time for a side trip to Uruguay, you might try this route and then either Pluna or Buquebus to Buenos Aires. There are also flights out of Rosario. We noticed in the Cordoba airport that Andes Airlines and Sol Airlines also fly directly to points in Argentina without the connections. I researched Andes on Flyertalk and, from what I could tell, customers were pleased with their experience. I haven't checked on Sol yet. Lan ran several specials right before our trip - Round trip Santiago to Mendoza for $50. RT Santiago to Montevideo for $99 - Not sure what your itinerary is, but these might be worth a look.

Thanks for the info - I'll keep watching as it gets closer.

The international airport EZE should be fine. There is a brand new terminal and they fly to both regional and international cities. it may increase the volume a bit but shouldnt be a problem at all

hope that help

According to the leading local daily, it WILL be a problem.

http://www.lanacion.com.ar/nota.asp?nota_id=1290781

The article says AEP (the airport for local flights) will be closed for 50 days from Oct. 15, which means EZE (our international airport) will have to serve TWICE as many travelers than its normal volume.

The AEP is expected to reopen in early Dec.

Wait for a while and then check with your airline or travel agent for more precise info about your particular flight.

Have a great time in our country.

This will have an impact on those flying into EZE from neighbouring countries who would have avoided the reciprocity fee (if applicable) by flying into AEP.
It is strange they did not do the improvements before they started moving a lot of flights to AEP.

Ugh I'm flying to Cordoba on 15/10!

avrooster Aug 4th, 2010 07:57 AM

The people who run our airports say it will be OK, but what can they say?

http://www.lanacion.com.ar/nota.asp?nota_id=1291143

They also mention October 20 as the date for the closure of AEP, instead of October 15.

Check with your TA or airline for the status of your flight, when the time is closer.

Have a great time in our country.

This might work well for me if I can connect at EZE to fly to IGR (Nov 21).

avrooster Aug 20th, 2010 02:46 AM

Of course, this helps people who wish to connect to other parts of Argentina right after their international flight.

Have a great time in our country.
