Argentina Trip Help

Hi all, My husband and I are planning a trip to Argentina in March. We have about 14th nights there. Do you think it's possible to do buenos aires, patagonia, mendoza, and iguazu falls?

Also, any tips about where to book hotels through and flights within argentina?

Suggest booking through a tour or not?

Thanks!

14 days booked on or with a tour group could cost an arm & a leg. That being said, if you are savvy, book it all by yourself. If you don't have a clue, find a good travel agent. First do some reading to be sure of the places you want to visit.

I suggest you research Isabel, an independent local travel agent, by typing her name in TA's Argentina forum search feature: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum...Argentina.html

Have a great time touring our country.

We did a 12 night trip last March and went to all the places you are planning to except for Mendoza, so with two extra nights I'm sure you could fit in Mendoza - we also had 8 nights in BA. We also used Isabel to book our flights within Argentina as well as book some of the hotels. Her website is: http://www.buenosaires-tours.com.ar and her email address is [email protected].

Yes, it is doable and no, you don't need to do it as a tour

jgg..do you think 6 nights in B.A. is too many? We will be there in December with 3 teenagers.

I appreciate all of your replies. These sites seem very useful. I can't wait!!!!

neilbit - are any of them girls who like to shop? The shopping is great in BA so if you do like to shop you will definitely want some extra time for that. If you are there for 6 days definitely try to plan atleast one daytrip outside of the city. The two most popular seem to be the Tigre Delta or the pampas. We did a bike ride to the Tigre and then kayaking in the Delta. We also did another biking trip through the city. Those were both fun. We booked through www.urbanbiking.com and loved the guides we had.

Yes - we have 2 teenage girls. Also thought about a day trip to Colonia, Uruguay. Our group is not really into biking but Tigre sounds good.

Tigre is a good day trip. We liked Colonia so much we were sorry it was only a day trip. Would have enjoyed spending a couple of days there. As far as six days in BsAs being too much, we love this city so much months wouldn't be too much for us.

We just returned from a three-week trip in South America and only had three days in BsAs. We had a wonderful time, thanks to rvrooster and a wonderful Fodor's GTG, etc., but once again we hated to leave and those three days went so fast!

Who's "rvrooster"?

A rooster driving a recreational vehicle?????

Just kidding! LOL!!!

Giovanna Feb 3rd, 2010 09:08 AM

Sorry about that! I guess my fingers engaged without a prompt from my brain! I know better of course.

Oh, I forgot about Colonia. Yes, we considered that too - I think I would have really enjoyed it, but decided to go with Tigre to have more activity for my son.

Six days in BA is alot, definetely gives time for you to take 2 or 3 day trips.

Independenly to the way you travel if you take a tour or book by yourself, if you prefer organised or you are more adventurous... I suggest to visit the NW of Argentina. Where all the landscapes are really amazing and stunning, breathtaking, awesomw and all this adjectives together!!!!
Do not miss Purmmarca and the salt flats, Tilcara and Humahuaca Gorge (a World Heritage Site!) and CAfayate our wine country which is not mandatory to visit or taste wines if you are not a wine fan... just the scenery is fantastic... "AVATARish" ... to tell in a more accurate "modern" way!
I would have said Lord of the Rings some years ago but everythign evolute. DO not miss it!!! NW is the best!

We're not going to the NW but we are going to Mendoza. Does anyone know of a nice hotel/apartment that can fit 5 people (age 14 to adult) and that has a pool?

You can book everywhere you wish to go on your own.
But, remember the airlines in Argentina do not fly
according to your scheduled flights.
We just returned from Iguazu Falls. We booked our flights
through LAN air lines. Our early morning flight did not leave until
noon. It was mid-day before we arrived in Puerto Iguazu.
The same happened on our return flight. So basically, we had one full day
at the falls at the cost of three!
A travel agent can not change this problem with the airlines.
