Argentina Itinerary Help
My husband and I will be in Argentina for 11 days in late November/early December, and are overwhelmed picking an itinerary. There are just too many things we want to do! But I don't want to spend the entire trip getting from one place to another.
We don't put a high priority on most tourist destinations -- would rather feel what it is like to really live somewhere. Are thinking we will skip the falls this trip. We love wildlife, water, good food, walking, and local or farmers markets. Don't especially seek out museums unless they're really special, we don't attend tourist "culture" demonstrations, and we tend not to take tours. Our favorite vacation days have been just walking through interesting neighborshoods, stopping here and there for food or coffee or a glass of wine, and window shopping. Love, love, love helado.
We fly into and out of Buenos Aires, and are looking at short or day trips to Tigre and Uruguay.
We are considering flying south to visit Punta Tombo so we can see penguins and guanacos, or flying north to see more tropical birds and animals. Would love to see the glaciers, but don't think we have time this trip. Would love to figure out a way to see wildlife without having to fly domestically so we have more time for everything else.
We are happy to take public transportation where it makes sense, and are comfortable hiring a car (except in BA.) Budget is not unlimited -- we'd rather spend $ on food and fun.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello GoKatGo:
Consider renting an apartment in Palermo for a week.
I think a self-guided WALKING TOUR might fit your style - here are some starter ideas for that:
Self-Guided Circuits
http://www.bue.gob.ar/recorridos/?me...m0_Self-guided
SELF GUIDED WALKING TOUR - from BA TOUR Blog
http://www.buenostours.com/self-guided-walking-tour
BUENOS AIRES FREE TOURS:
http://www.buenosairesfreetour.com
(they work 100% for tips).
Your day trip ideas - Tigre or Colonia - sound good. A 2 day trip to San Antonio de Areco by bus, with a stay at an estancia there, or an inn might suit your interests
(here is my trip report from that adventure) http://www.fodors.com/community/sout...t-4th-week.cfm
If you decide to fly to Punto Tumbo, you can get excellent advice on this forum and on TA.
Have a great trip,
~MarnieWDC

OH, I am sorry///
You can see guanacos also in teh way to the salt flats, vicunas ( a close relative of guanacos), condors, birds, hammingbirds, parrots...
ou need at least four days for the area. I recommend to take two days to seee Cafayate and two for Purmamarca, the Salt Flats and Humahuaca GOrge.
Wamr regards,
Angie

Thanks for all your advice. I think we are going to try to get to Punta Tombo -- the idea of baby penguins is just too compelling. If anyone has any advice on the area, or on arranging domestic flights, I'd appreciate it!
