Argentina internal flight and itinerary question
Hi!
My girlfriend and I (from Holland) are planning our 4 week honeymoon trip to Argentina in April/May. At the moment we are considering the following destination:
- Buenos Aires (6 nights including surrounding area)
- Salta area (9 nights)
- Puerto Madryn / Peninsula Valdes (3 nights)
- El Calafate / El Chalten area (5 nights)
- Ushuaia (4 nights)
I have the following questions:
- is this itenerary feasible in April/May? Are the number of nights sufficient for the number of days as stated?
- should we include an destination or replace one?
- we want to use internal flights. Is it better to book those flights upfront or is it better to book them in Argentina?
Many thanks for your help!
Best regards,
Mark

While Salta sits among spectacular and diverse mountain terrains, it is a small city. Do you have special interests or activities to occupy you for nine nights? Otherwise three or four days would probably keep you satisfied there.

I think the number of days for BA are fine. I agree with southam that 9 nights is too much for Salta area. El Calafate/Chalten with 5 nights if you are hoping to do some treks, otherwise you can also shave time off here. Have you considered Iguazú? It is worth flying up and spending a night or two.
Weather in April/May will be autumnal and weather is always unpredictable in Patagonia. Salta and Iguazú would have warm weather.
Although it will mean a bit of extra cost, you might use a travel agent in BA to sort an itinerary and book tickets for you. There have been some highly recommended ones on the forum. If you prefer to book things yourself, do it before you travel. The sooner the better as far as prices are concerned.

Thanks for the advice! I think I will cut 3 to 4 days from the Salta area and one from El Calafate. I have already been to Iguazu 2 years ago when visiting Brazil so I I will skip it this time.
Would Cordoba or Mendoza areas be nice alternatives? Which one do you think is better to spend a couple of days? Or are there other alternatives? We like a nice combination of history and nature.
