Apartment Hotels in Santiago - Anybody Stay in One? Numerous in Santiago.

Hello.

I've noticed the numerous apartment hotels in Santiago whose rates are significantly lower than most regular full-service hotels. Anyone stay in one? Are they to be recommended? Is this the latest trend in Santiago as far as hotels are concerned?

Thanks in advance.

Aparthotels are good value. Because they offer fewer services than a hotel: less staff, no restaurant, they often work out cheaper. They tend to cluster in the center of town, in the area around the Santa Lucia hill, in Providencia and Las Condes. Some are purpose built buildings, but many are flats in residential buildings. Prices vary widely according to location and size. You can find reviews for many on the internet. They usually run from US$60 a night for a studio and go right up to a similar price for a four star hotel. Be careful of third party booking sites which are often less than frank about location.

No chance to edit, but if you put any address into planos.cl or mapcity.cl you can see locations.

In 2006 we stayed at Lafayette Suites in Providencia. The location was ideal and the hotel was excellent value. It's not new, but very clean, the bathrooms and bedrooms are small but if you are looking for a reasonable price in a great location I would suggest you look at it. There are many similar comments on Trip Advisor - some also found it noisy - our room faced the back so we didn't have that problem and frankly Santiago is noisy so other hotels share that problem.
