Airfare in July to Buenos Aires

I will be travelling to Argentina from Washington, DC next July 3 - 14 and am just starting to research plane tickets. This is my first trip to South America, so I'm not sure what to expect pricewise. Current prices are $930 on American, $1140 on Delta from BWI, $1240 on Continental, and $1640 for United's direct IAD-EZE flight. Does anyone have any thoughts on what a good price to Buenos Aires for this time of year might be?

In my experience price go up and down depending of the season. In July , Argentine students have Winter holidays and for this reason prices are on the high side.

not sure about July '10 but keep an eye on Mexicana airlines -- fares went insanely low this year (287-489 r/t). These aren't normal or average fares to BA (around $1000 since I started looking 18 months ago) but MX has offered some great deals in past 6 months.

Monitor travelzoo for specials in Jan

the airlines get desparate if summer bookings are low

so best to wait.

There will be a new $131 reciprocity fee to fly into EZE

that should decrease US traffic lots will fly elsewhere. is another good site...

Thanks everyone. Mexicana just started flying to Dulles last week, so maybe they'll have some introductory specials.

I was just reading about this reciprocity fee on another thread and am not happy. Maybe flying to Uruguay could be a better deal.
