advice about traveling in Peru
 

hello

I am hopping to find a good advise during my photography trip in Peru about witch cities or places will be the best to visit during a photography trip. my plan is to travel in July 2016. so far i decided to go to Puno, Cusco and Arequipe.

I am traveling on a budget so i will love to save as much money i can in transportation, and hostel and leave to the tours i think will be necessary to take some tours to visit greta places.

any advice about places i should not miss and also places that will not be so interesting.

yes you are right creliston, but unfortunately i just found this forum 2 days i go on internet.

Consider the Islas Ballestas near Pisco north of Arequipa on the Pacific Coast. The Islas are near enough to the coast for a half-day boat tour which can be booked in Pisco. If you're interested in wildlife photography, this would be a good place, as would Colca Canyon if you're taking the bus from Puno to Arequipa or vice-versa. Good chance of seeing condors at Colca Canyon.

I'd also check out Barranco and Callao, suburbs of Lima. Callao has a Spanish-era fortress and Barranco some nice older homes plus other interesting features.

However, Cusco and the nearby Sacred Valley are the best. I was there with a friend who had to keep buying more digital foto paks (don't know what they're technically called) as he'd shoot hundreds of fotos a day there. Book an inexpensive Sacred Valley group tour when you get to Cusco and recover from altitude sickness.

The historic part of Arequipa is really photogenic.

If you can get from Cusco to Pisac on a Sunday, despite a heavy tourism presence, there are many people in indigenous costume who are accustomed to having their photos being taken. You may have to depart with "one sol" for the photo. Also the alcaldes (mayors) from adjacent villages go to the chapel on the west side of town for an 11 am service, another opportunity which again may require a payment. Worthwhile and at least the money goes directly to them.

The Santa Catalina Monastery in Arequipa I think is good for photos. Good lighting, colors and shadows.
