A month in Argentina--what would you do?

I'm with your wife -- nothing beats strolling along the Seine! But for some variety ARG is quite nice.
Once again I will agree with crellston on driving in the NW. It was mostly easy driving and some very nice scenery.
Our TR from 8 years ago describes our drive in that lovely area. Not sure what has changed since then.

dwdvagamundo:
1) Be VERY careful and research thoroughly who you are dealing with, when you rent a car in Argentina.
2) Do not even consider driving all over. We Argentines are dangerous drivers and the distances are HUGE, as said above.
3) Driving yourself in the NW is OK, but I suggest using the TA forum to research "Angie", a local guide with her own transportation and drawing your own conclusions.
4) The NW is the only place where I would rent a car. If you were going to Bariloche, I would say rent there too. Córdoba maybe, but not sure. The last time I was there was in the 50's. LOL!!!
Have a great time in my country.

O.K. So no car in the northeast?
How much time for each? My spouse will go if we go for three weeks. So one week for BA, a little bit of Uruguay and the Valdes, one week for the river country, and one week for the northwest?
AV--you all Italian-Argentinians can't be any worse drivers than Italian-Italians, can you? How would you see the country between the rivers if not in a car? We generally take buses in Mexico and I've also taken buses in Peru.

"We Argentines are dangerous drivers'' . Come on avrooster, your driving wasn't THAT bad.
One week for the northwest would be about right. That would be enough time to drive the Northern Circuit - Humhuaca, Tilcara, Purmarca (maybe the Salineras grande) etc,and the southern circuit - Cachi and Cafayate maybe add on a couple of days for some time in salta itself.
A week should be enough for BA, maybe a day or overnight trip to Colonia or Montevideo and a couple of nights in PV.
Iguazu needs two or three nights (depending on flight timings) if you want to see both the Argentine and Brazilian sides (recommended).

crellston--I want to see more than the falls and I probably won't spring for a Brazilian visa per comments on this forum.
I'm at least as interested in the missions and the parks.

Hey dwdvagamundo,
I'm from Philadelphia but I have been living here in Buenos Aires since January (I graduated from university in December and moved out here in January to work on my startup). Seems like you've already gotten a lot of great information. Definitely try to get to Mendoza if you can. Going down south to Patagonia might be an option, but with the mobility issue you may want to try something else. In my experience the best/most authentic tours are generally found here: https://www.localaventura.com/tours?...y.name=&sort=#
Let me know if you have any specific questions! I'd be more than happy to hop on the phone and share any advice you may need. Happy traveling.
