10 Week South America Trip
Hi,
Looking to travel South America for 10 weeks with 7-10 days being spent relaxing at the end of 8 and 1/2 weeks travelling.
Interested in seeing major landmarks,Machu Picchu, Salt Flats Bolivia, etc and visit some major cities/places along the way... and looking to travel to Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and possibly finish in Brazil.
Is this realistic and would it be possible on a €4,500 budget? (Doesnt include flights to and from my place of origin.)
Thanks, any and all info/ideas are welcome as well as sample itineraries from people who have done similar trips.
Regards,
G

Entirely possible, although travel in South America can take a lot longer than anticipated. When are you planning on going? The weather could have a big impact on your plans.
The most efficient way for such a trip is to get an "open jaw" ticket from your home country. Usually the same cost as normal return from Europe. This year we are flying into Lima and out of Buenos Aires. In between we go north through Peru into Ecuador and Colombia, where we will spend a couple of months before returning south through Peru and then on through Bolivia into Argentina.
Our last trip involved flying into Quito, Ecuador, overland through Peru into Bolivia, then Northern Argentina and Chile returning to Lima for our flight home. More details of that trip on our blog @
http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog...ai/6/tpod.html
That trip took 6 months but could probably be condensed into 10 weeks as we did spend one month in Quito a the beginning to brush up on Spanish and another in
Lima at the end to get over travel fatigue!
Planning an outline itinerary is key to getting the most out of your trip. Get a guidebook for the region and start by highlighting the places that interest you and work out a route from there.
Your budget works out at €65 per day which is fine as long as you are not too extravagant on hotels and don't want to take too many flights. Cost vary considerably from place to place. Bolivia is very cheap, Chile, Argentina and Brazil are expensive.

Nailed, I agree with @crellston , I spent 1200USD (2 weeks) in Peru (flights inclusive), tour Bolivia 4WD 12 days 50USD per day (hotels 2*) very cheap, Chile 4WD awesome place but expensive 85USD per day and Brazil and Argentina very expensive 100 - 120 USD per day not include flights (just hotels 50USD you have to book 3 months before).
I suggest trying one the few companies that offer trips in the region. Try next:
www.pmexplorers.com (Peru)
www.banjotours.com (Bolivia)
https://www.tripadvisor.com.pe/Attra...an_Region.html (Chile and Argentina)
Good luck (sorry for my bad english )

Thanks v much for your information, looking to travel from roughly March 20th to first week of June next year. Can you recommend how much time would be best suited to staying in each of the countries. Really just beginning to look into things seriously now. Thinking of going the route of Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and finishing in Brazil and (possibly finding a nice relaxing resort to finish holiday before flying home). So far things definite are Inca Trail, La Paz, Cycling Death Road, Salt Flats. Are there any places/things you guys have done that are highly recommended? Also @jeff would you recommend doing using tour guides from country to country or doing it independently?
Thanks again,
G

So you will be traveling in SA fall, into the beginning of winter at the end.
Rio's weather will be less hot/humid, good for touring the sights, and maybe sitting out in the sun on a particularly sunny afternoon, but it may be too cool for beach activities for many. Also Rio does not really have beach resorts. For that, you might have to rake a domestic flight to someplace warmer/north that is not in rainy season.
