caracol vs tikal

We are booked and staying at table rock in cayo district and seaside cabanas in caye caulker in March.
We want to do ATM tour and a ruin while at table rock. We have 3 full days there. One day we thought we would enjoy the lodge kayak, tube etc.. one day do ATM tour and??
I really like the idea of tikal since it is the biggest ruin but I like that I can see caracol and rio frio and falls on one tour. How do the ruins compare? I was told you can see wildlife at tikal? Thanks

We've only been to Tikal, but it's really impressive - huge and elaborate. When we went they even let us climb several of the pyramids. We did see quite a bit of wildlife there including spider monkeys, oscillated turkeys, and aracaris. I'd recommend it.

I'd choose Tikal, in part for the wildlife and in part to spend the time with Roxy Ortiz: www.tikalroxy.blogspot.com

There are many 1-day tours to Tikal from San Ignacio; pacztours.net/ will take you to ATM, Caracol, Tikal, and several other places.

If Roxy's available, she could meet you at the border; you can get to the border by taxi or (almost clear there) by bus. Agencies like Pacz will provide the whole day or transportation only if that's what you want. For what it's worth, I highly recommend an overnight for Tikal. Sounds like you might already have your reservations but I'm bringing it up just in case you don't. Happy trails!

PACZ is who we used as well; they did a great job. A woman in our group used them only for transportation, but we used them for the full tour.

Nothing--absolutely nothing--beats an overnight trip to Tikal.

For a day trip, I would be inclined to go with Caracol since that includes stops at the Rio Frio cave and Rio On pools.
