Galapagos & Machu Picchu

Thinking about taking the OAT trip to Galapagos & Machu Picchu in January or Feb. Does anyone have any experience with OAT on this trip and is the weather OK that time of year?

As you probably know January is rainy season at least for Machu Picchu. We took a chance and just did the Inca Trail the first week of January. The weather was very nice.

Lots of rain fog in Jan. when I was there last NOT ideal The Inka Trail is closed in Feb. Rail tracks washed away a few days after I left. Best times for both May or September check weather2travel.com Climate guides. Find my best deals on Galapagos in the fall like galavengalapagos.com from $600 on a 2 for one with galapagosislands.com last fall. Wildlife much more active in the fall there.smartours.com BBB.org A rated great packages from the US on sales also. Usually find my best deals self-booking and guiding. Do pay only with CC
and beware the many hidden agents touts scammers on the boards especially TripAdvertizer so as not to pay thousands for a cruise that really costs hundreds if you know what you are doing.

Happy Planning!

We have booked at trip to Galapagos and Machu Pichu followed by a week in Amazon in June, is that a good time to go? Or should I have thought more about the time of year before booking? We have chosen a custom job with private guides so hoping to have an experience of a ligetime. We are also cruizing the islands on the Galavan.

That is really good news! I hadn't given a thought to the weather, just picked a time when kids are at school so that we are not so likely to get them on same boat or flight as us. My days of kids is way in the past!

I though June was when kids are out of school.

Hence why I will go in May.

Oh dear,
In the UK kids start their summer holidays at the end of July and go back to school at the begining of September.
I'd never cope with 2 weeks on a small boat with kids on it!
But, having paid in full I cannot change it now, so, fingers crossed we are lucky and have a nice quite trip.
Thanks for the feedback, at least I will be aware now.
Lorraine
