bangkok...oods 'n ends

I’ve been in Bangkok for a few days now, so I thought I’d post this thread on a “live” basis, ala carol.

This report will be in no particular order, and if fact, may seem random, and without direction. Hopefully, some of the info here might be beneficial to a few of you.

Whats new with the bts?

On the queens birthday, the bts opened five new stations beyond on nut on the sukhumvit line. I went to three of them so far, bang chak, bearing, and bang na station.

The station that would be interest to most of you would be the next station after on nut, bang chak. After you get off the bts, take exit 5, it will lead you to soi 95, just a block away from soi 93, and on to jt outlet. After shopping at jt outlet, and if you walk back to bang chak, stop by at kidtueng bakery, just before the walk-up to bang chak, and enjoy a delicious mini chocolate and vanilla cream puff. They are 2 for five bhat, and very delicious. There is a seating area, where you can enjoy the puffs with a cold soft drink.

I also went to the terminal station, bearing. Nothing there, as the area around the station is dotted with light industrial businesses.

On the way back, I stopped at bang na station. I did not even exit the station, as I looked around the station, and did not see anything of interest.

I will explore udom suk and punnawithee stations later.

There are several new cars on the bts line with high tech digital route indicators. Very nice.

Ah, a closer stop to the JT outlet - thanks for the info! And the cream puffs sound yummy. Thanks, Ken.

have things boiled down to this for a long time visitor: riding the skytrain to visit new stations?

sure beats getting into trouble with brad and pook when they are in town...

i will of course by-pass any cream puff places... i never indulge myself... well, maybe for an hawaiian cream puff...

enjoy the rest of your stay... plan an outing for 5 years hence when BTS will open more stations with nana bars in them.

Hi Ken! I'm glad you are reporting 'live' from BKK. I will follow along with great interest!

I was wondering when those outer BTS stations would be opening. They appeared to be almost ready when I was in the city last month. Glad to know they are up and running. I love exploring the area around the various BTS stations. Your input is good.

A station closer to JT Outlet is a good deal! And yes, those mini cream puffs sound delicious.

Have you found Meang's new Side Pocket yet? It isn't all that easy to locate the stairway going up, but hopefully you've been there, and hopefully you've enjoyed the outdoor porch! I told Maeng that when I return (in October...last two weeks) I want a table on the porch and a bowl of chili!

I like the new modern BTS cars. But the seats are not any softer. Oh well, it's a short ride on the skytrain anyway; who needs cushy seats! haha

Have a nice time. Wish Brad would get there before you head home, but that won't be the case. He'll be there onthe 26th.

March 26, 2012 for kaika date in Tokyo.....tell Jackie....of course all the usual disclaimers attached.

Hurry home so we can party!!!

Lucy, I consider myself to be one of the 'odds'... I've always moved to the beat of a different drummer.

Ken, where are you?? You started this thread and got us all interested and then you disappeared!

And yes, most certainly we should have a GTG for those of us who are in BKK at the same time.

UH OH ... Will we have to start singing this about Ken?

Did he ever return?
No he never returned
And his fate is still unlearned.
He will ride forever 'bove the streets of Bangkok
He's the man who never returned....

(apologies to all you Boston Fodorites)

Ken, "live" reporting means you have to come back on a regular basis. Didn't you learn that much from all my 'live on the scene' threads? lol

Come baaaaackkkkk!

Are you already back home in HNL?

Remember his ninja training....he's already been back....we just didn't notice.

I am sure he will report in soon. Hanuman is in his near future.

Guenmai, nice to see you here again! We miss you!!

Aloha!

sawasdee, very bad internet service at the hotel, as they are still trying to fix/find the problem(two days now), so am writing from sidepocket, just to let you guys know i'm still around, and too cheap to go to an internet cafe.

i had a long reply ready to send this morning, then, the internet stopped working again, so my post didn't make it.

will post later.
