8 day road trip of central France

Just returned from our once in a life time trip driving from Lyon to the Dordogne valley to Bordeaux to Argentat to Beaune to Annecy to Chamonix and many villages in between before heading back to Lyon. We had the best time putting on almost 2500km on our little Citroen Picasso. Enjoyed every hotel, Inn and guesthouse (especially "Les Meyrandiers" in Argentat). Of course we ate too much - Foie gras & enjoyed wonderful local wines. Participated in outdoor markets in Bordeaux, Sarlat & Annecy. Big thanks to Stu Dudley for his 20 page Dordogne report he sent me. Used it with big success.

Took over 1400 photos between France & Italy. Some selected photos - https://picasaweb.google.com/jzalte

I'm amazed you survived an 8-day road trip. I'm not a huge fan of road trips coz it easily wears me out. But hey! You made it sound like fun here! Hope you had a great time.

How timely. We leave in about an hour--flying into Bordeaux, then to Brantome, on to Sarlat, then Rodez, Le Puy en Velay and finishing up in Lyon. I'm going to look at those pix right now.

JayZee: those are some wonderful photos. I'm taking notes on the photo names, for our trip to Dordogne in the fall. Merci!

I'm glad you found my Dordogne report useful.

Sounds amazing. We are thinking of doing Bordeaux to Lyon 8-day drive in October. Any recommendations for the stops along the way? Also, did you feel the need to book hotels ahead of time, or did you just find place to stay when you got to town?
