Surprising Kauai rental car for 2.95 per day!
Must have caught a glitch or something. I've been watching rental car rates on Kauai for the first week of Nov. All the rates have been way too high!
Checked hotwire.com just now and found mid size for my dates come up at $2.95 per day, 10/31-11/7. $3.95 for stand or full size. Still 35.95 for convertible.
Booked as quick as I could type, hoping it wouldn't jump back up in the midst of booking. Went through fine. 7 days out the door at $56.80.
Sweet deal.

I hear yah! However, it's a binding contract w/ the car rental paid in full, charged to my cc. I'm not sure how they would get out of it... you never know.
I'm keeping my no cost ressie w/ www.carrentalhawaii.com just in case. Their rates are the best to be found w/ no cost up front. $210 for mid size, out the door for 1 week. I'll let'cha know how it plays out.
A few years back I followed a thread on flyertalk.com that alerted about a glitch w/ travelocity's fares to Fiji... ridiculously low cost to Nadi from LAX. $200 or something like that. Hundreds of people jumped on the fare and travelocity honored all paid tickets. People were sweating it out until they rec'd their requested paper tickets in the mail. hehehe.
I have high hopes!! Aloha spirit!!

ps. Priceline will be the way to go on these car rentals during this gouging season. www.biddingfortravel.com shows which bids are winning. Much better way to go imho.
Still working on a winning bid for our Hana stay following Kauai.
Would love to hear if any of you are winning bids for HI car rentals on P-line.
Aloha

I prebooked car rentals on Oahu, Kauai, Maui, AND Big Island through carrentalhawaii months before going. I kept the little two day economy rental on Oahu, but I replaced the other three all with convertible bids from Priceline, ranging from one week to three weeks before arrival. They were for $21, 22, and 23 per day -- again for a convertible. Basically they all came out very close to the advance prebooked discount rates for an economy with carrentalhawaii. I was unable to get a convertible at those prices trying more than a month ahead of arrival, so I'm pretty sure that you are best bidding within a week or two on Priceline for best savings. In fact, if I recall, my $ 22 bid was declined on Big Island with a guarantee I could get it for 27 or so. But I waited a couple days, rebid $22 and got it.
Two of these Priceline bids are with National, the one on BI was with Alamo.

Off-topic, and I'm really sorry about it. Makai, I was wondering if there was still a way of accessing the photo journal of your trip to Kauai in 2005, when you stayed at Hale Maluhia. My wife and I are thinking of renting it for the Xmas holidays.
We're also wondering how the view can be so great if the house is mauka of the road to the St. Regis and appears blocked by condos in front of it.
Again, sorry folks.

Aloha Cidbob. No worries. You'll love Hale Maluhia. The home is across the street, but the view is unobstructed. There is a grassy area w/ benches and the walking path. The St Regis is down the street at the end of the road.

found your 2005 trip report:

But the photo link does not seem to work.

Am I doing something wrong? Or did it disappear?
Do you have a backup?
