Napa/Sonoma: When to go in Spring with fewer crowds

If you could go sometime between March and May, when would you go to avoid big crowds in the wine country? Thanks in advance.

The wine country will not be very busy most weekdays during that time period.

Things to keep in mind are the Mustard Festival in Napa, Barrel Tasting in Russian River (wineroad.com), April in Carneros and other events that draw in more people. In general we visit at least once in March, April and May all on weekends and don't find any times much worse than others. Have a great time.

My husband and I are going to Sonoma and Napa Valley mid-April, 2007. We can't wait!

Spring in Sonoma county is lovely. You might get some rain, but flowers will be blooming in April for sure. Try staying in a vacation rental, its more fun..(www.HealdsburgRentals.com ) or stay at one of the many B&Bs in this area. If you want to avoid crowds all together, come in Jan/Feb..but the weather will be cold and rainy. Crowds are part of the fun of this area.
