Rick Steves Christmas Special
I know many people frown apon any Steves, but I thought he Europe Special was very well done!
And I still think his Europe books are the perfect "first Timers" guides!
Anybody else see this PBS Special?

I didn't see it. When was it on? ...
I happen to like Rick Steves and think a lot of his advice is very good. I can't get with some of his cheapie hotel and dining recommendations, but his practical advice is very good. And I really appreciate his politics and outlook on the world and value of travel

I saw it last night on the PBS New Jersey station and it was fabulous!
I don't go where Rick Steves suggests too often (restaurants, hotels, etc.) BUT I confess from early on, years ago, his shows encouraged me and gave me the confidence to think "Of course! I can do that." and I did. He did not "toot" his tours on those shows but did support independent travel.
I was so inspired - I pledged money to get the book and the DVD too.
Plus, I support public television every year. Rather watch McNeil/Lehrer that Fox news...

I'm looking forward to watching his Christmas special here in the San Francisco Bay Area later this week. If you go to his website, ricksteves.com and click on his TV links, you'll find the showtimes for your local PBS station.

DH and I watched it together on Saturday and really enjoyed it. It made me long for the holidays in Europe!
I really like Rick Steves. I don't always agree with his choices or comments, but I always read his books (and others) when visiting a new country or area as they give great advice on what not to miss.

If it involves Christmas and European travel (two favorite things), it sounds wonderful.

I saw parts of it over the weekend, and it looked as though it was taped about 25 years ago - or maybe my television's going!
It was a nice concept and well done, though trudging up that mountain in three feet of snow to cut down the tree did not look like fun, and his description of foie gras just made me laugh out loud!

I watched last night - and thought it was a good show. Nothing too out of the mainstream, but still good.
Rick's a little bit dorky, but I like his shows. Everyone who's met him says he's really nice, which is always a good thing. I'd rather watch a dork than an arrogant know-it-all any day.

I missed it, but noticed that they were doing a lot of specials recently on PBS -- I think it must be fund-raising time or something. There was also a two hour travel special by Rudy Maxa this week on PBS, but I don't think it was Christmas-related.

I like Rick Steves and enjoy his books and videos. I probably would never have travelled alone or with a teenager if his books had not "empowered" me to do so. I don't necessarily stay or eat at his picks but his itinearies and travel hints are great. I am going home today and try to figure out if I can catch the special.

I like Rick, too, and think his books are great for first-timers to Europe, as they are full of practical information. I don't stay at his hotels usually, but have used a couple in provincial France, and they were fine.
I think he is probably a very nice person - and certainly a successful one!
I missed the first showing of the Xmas show in Miami - but will tape the second showing (which is tonight at 3:00 AM!).

Well, I'm not a RS fan, but if he's got any story about Paris and France, then I'm fine. Tonight in my area I just happened to catch the part about Xmas in Paris and Burgundy. Not sure if there was more about France as I had to leave, but I was most interested in Paris.
