My sister and I are both in our mid-twenties and are spending Christmas in London. Can someone please let me know what to expect and I'd also like some suggestions for what to do on Christmas Eve and Christmas day, especially where to eat.

London is very quiet on Christmas day. It's a day most Londoners spend at home. Restaurants in hotels will be open. Go to mass, or a carol service on Christmas eve. And I like walking around London and the parks when it's quiet (as long as the weather is not too bad).

also remember that dec. 26 (boxing day) is a national holiday. a lot of things will be closed and transport is spotty.

we were there last year and didn't have any problems other than with restaurants tho many of the ethnic places will be open both days.

one suggestion: if you are planning on seeing harrods window decorations, do it early. they disassemble them quite quickly after boxing day.

Public transporation is completely shut down, so you'll have to walk or find a mini-cab if you need to travel on Christmas Day.

Suggestion for Christmas Eve. Ice Skating at The Tower of London. First time they've had an ice rink there and it will be in the moat. Somerset House is already sold out for Xmas Eve.

I was there around Christmas 2003 and the walking tours were running, even on Christmas day. Great fun, and not very expensive.

Please allow me to re-state that. The walking tours were OPERATING. Nobody was running.

My sister and i were there about 4yrs ago, arrived on the 26th ( boxing Day) could not find a meal in most pub or resturants, so make sure your hotel has a good one. ( ours was terrible)
