international cell phones

Hi everyone!
I am thinking about getting my husband a Blackberry Storm for Christmas, because I've heard that they will work internationally.
Can anyone with more tech experience than me (which would be almost anyone!) tell me if this is true? I've heard there are problems about different networks and such...
Thanks much!

Blackberries do indeed work internationally - with certain carriers.

I think the best deal in town right now is the T-Mobile BlackBerry Unlimited International E-mail for only $19.99/month.

DH has had three different blackberries in the past 5 years (incl the really old gray dinosaur one), and all three have worked in europe, with no problems with networks. though the blackberry was provided by his job. i believe they were all t-mobile carriers. he didnt even need or put in a sim card, at least not that he knows of).

You really should check with Verizon, since the Storm will only be available with Verizon service.

I think you will have to switch out the sim card with the verizon phone as they do not provide international service, though maybe that has changed recently or they have some sort of deal with the Storm. My understanding is that t-moble and att are the only major US carriers that provide int'l service.

*I could be wrong on the verizon as things change as far as service goes, as someone else said, double check with them as they know for sure and people on the board, like myself, are more likely to be wrong/unclear on service capabilities.
