Yes, looks like there is a 10:00 pm departure from IAD to OPO on United connecting in Frankfurt to Lufthansa. (It's actually cheaper to book the flight as a Lufthansa code share operated by United.) On the return from LIS you can get a 10:50 am direct to IAD on TAP for about $100 more - money well spent, IMO.

I wouldn’t bother stopping in Aviero. Have you considered other stops such as historic Coimbra?
