I think that the Grand Egyptian Museum has opened but I can not find any information. I have written them but have not heard anything yet. Does any one know anything about it... hours, if there are tours available, how to reach it. I know there is an Egyptian Museum in Cairo as well that is suppose to be quite good. Have they taken stuff from there to the new museum?

GEM is not yet opened, but they have been giving what they’re referring to as “soft” tours or test tours. However, it’s not ar all clear who is doing them and if one is able to participate. My guess would be that people in tourism, for instance, are invited to visit. There may be some opportunities through different kinds of groups - but the official opening is still a ways off.

We were in Egypt in November and went to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo as well as the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. Both of them were still terrific and found them very satisfying. I scheduled then because the museum was supposed to open then but, as we know by now, the projections of opening are only a vague possibility!
