Do you have 5 days or 5 nights?
I would suggest Lisbon for 5 nights to include a day trip to Sintra. That is what we did and it worked for us. Staying overnight in Sintra would be nice, too, so another possibility is 4 nights in Lisbon and 1 night in Sintra. There are several trip reports and planning threads about Portugal on this forum right now that should be helpful.

We just returned from Portugal. We always end our trip through the country in Lisbon.
We spent our last five nights there in an apartment in Chiado.
If you only have five nights total, you really should only pick no more than two places to stay and not far apart from each other. Two cities that are popular are Porto and Lisbon but you will lose almost a day getting from one to the other.
The problem with a five day trip to Portugal is that it does not look like so big a country to a first timer but it is so jam packed with so much culture, scenery, interesting things to see that it is deceiving.
Start with a very good guide book and start listing your priorities. And do not forget to factor in travel time.

We are a 8 people planning to travel in first week of Oct 2022. We will rent a van but have no plans to go to the islands.
Our interest are beach area, culture and food. We were looking at hotels in price range of upto $350 night.
Hope this helps
